H.R. No. 312 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 State District Judge Mario E. Ramirez, Jr., for his exceptional 1-3 contributions as a member of the judiciary; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Judge Ramirez's remarkable career has been 1-5 distinguished not only by his contributions as a member of the 1-6 judiciary but also for his life dedication to his family and 1-7 community; he graduated from Rio Grande City High School, the 1-8 University of Notre Dame, and ultimately St. Mary's University Law 1-9 School; and 1-10 WHEREAS, He began his professional employment as a law clerk 1-11 for the Bexar County Legal Aid Association in San Antonio; his 1-12 consummate legal skills and reputation for fairness soon gained the 1-13 recognition of a wider community; his pristine image also led the 1-14 McAllen City Council to appoint him to serve as an assistant 1-15 municipal court judge for the city; in 1981, Mario Ramirez, Jr., 1-16 was elected to the office of state district judge in Hidalgo 1-17 County, serving as presiding judge for the 93rd and 332nd district 1-18 courts in Hidalgo County; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Since assuming his judicial duties, Judge Ramirez 1-20 has continued to demonstrate the stringent intellectual standards 1-21 and dedication to hard work that have consistently characterized 1-22 his career; a stern but compassionate man, he does not shrink from 1-23 imposing harsh sentences where warranted, yet he shows an 2-1 unflagging willingness to work with those defendants who indicate a 2-2 sincere desire to be rehabilitated; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Throughout his professional endeavors, Judge Ramirez 2-4 has displayed a singular commitment to the ideal of justice and to 2-5 the belief that one person's actions can and will make a 2-6 difference; a man of rare integrity and principal, he is indeed 2-7 worthy of our highest praise and recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-9 Legislature hereby commend State District Judge Mario E. Ramirez, 2-10 Jr., for his outstanding contributions to his community and his 2-11 state; and, be it further 2-12 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-13 prepared for Judge Ramirez as an expression of great esteem from 2-14 the Texas House of Representatives.
