                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Texans everywhere are indebted to the fine men and
    1-2  women in the law enforcement profession who, by their selfless
    1-3  dedication to the public welfare, have enabled us to enjoy the
    1-4  benefits of a peaceful and orderly society; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, On March 31, 1995, one of these outstanding
    1-6  individuals, Coy Lorance, will retire from his position as a
    1-7  Department of Public Safety trooper after more than 25 years of
    1-8  exemplary service to the citizens of Texas; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, A native of Bowie County, Trooper Lorance attended
   1-10  Texarkana High School; soon after his graduation, this remarkable
   1-11  gentleman served his country with honor and distinction as a member
   1-12  of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War,
   1-13  demonstrating unflinching bravery during the Tet Offensive of 1968;
   1-14  and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Returning to civilian life following his
   1-16  distinguished four-year tenure in the military, he embarked on a
   1-17  successful career in law enforcement, joining the Texas Department
   1-18  of Public Safety in July 1968; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Trooper Lorance began his career as a highway
   1-20  patrolman in Marshall before transferring to his hometown of
   1-21  Texarkana in 1973; for the next eight years, he earned the respect
   1-22  and admiration of all who worked with him in the Highway Patrol
   1-23  Service; and
   1-24        WHEREAS, In 1981, Trooper Lorance joined the License and
    2-1  Weight Service in Texarkana, where he has demonstrated meritorious
    2-2  service and courage consistent with the very highest ideals of the
    2-3  law enforcement profession; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Last year this exceptional individual brought great
    2-5  honor to his profession and his state by representing Texas in
    2-6  Tampa, Florida, at the International Inspector Competition of
    2-7  Federal Highway Safety Regulations on Motor Carrier Safety and
    2-8  Transportation of Hazardous Materials; previously named the 1994
    2-9  Texas state champion in this event, Trooper Lorance placed 10th in
   2-10  this prestigious competition, which included participants from
   2-11  throughout Canada, Mexico, and the United States; and
   2-12        WHEREAS, Throughout his many years of service with the Texas
   2-13  Department of Public Safety, Trooper Lorance has exemplified in his
   2-14  personal and professional conduct the singular virtues of integrity
   2-15  and commitment, and his outstanding contributions are indeed worthy
   2-16  of special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
   2-17        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-18  Legislature hereby congratulate Trooper Coy Lorance on the occasion
   2-19  of his retirement and extend to him warmest best wishes for
   2-20  continued success and happiness in his future endeavors; and, be it
   2-21  further
   2-22        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-23  prepared for Trooper Lorance as an expression of high regard by the
   2-24  Texas House of Representatives.
