                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Elsa Germer was recently honored in a "Celebration
    1-2  of Life" reception held at the Rebekah Baines Johnson Retirement
    1-3  Center as one of a number of remarkable women ranging in age from
    1-4  90 to 98 who have not only lived life, but have embraced it to the
    1-5  fullest; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, A native Texan, she was born in New Braunfels on
    1-7  October 30, 1903, and has remained a lifelong resident of the state
    1-8  she is proud to call home; throughout her adult life, Ms. Germer
    1-9  has managed to strike a perfect balance between work and play,
   1-10  having served as a valued employee of the telephone company at
   1-11  Bergstrom Air Force Base for many years while traveling extensively
   1-12  throughout the United States; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Born under a lucky star, Ms. Germer has managed to
   1-14  avoid two natural disasters during her travels, coming within 100
   1-15  miles of Mount St.  Helens when it erupted and enjoying a visit to
   1-16  beautiful Hawaii while a volcano erupted there; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, A prime example of how to grow old gracefully, this
   1-18  admirable woman took up bowling in her 70s and continues, at the
   1-19  age of 91, to engage in what has become one of her favorite
   1-20  pastimes two or three times each week; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, When asked what advice she would pass along to the
   1-22  younger generation, Ms. Germer responded with these words of
   1-23  wisdom, "Just keep working and doing what you have to do," a simple
   1-24  philosophy that has indeed served her well throughout her full and
    2-1  active life; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Elsa Germer is a beloved member of her community
    2-3  whose kindness, warmth, and generosity have touched the lives of
    2-4  countless people during her lifetime, and it is a privilege to
    2-5  recognize her at this time; now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-7  Legislature hereby honor Elsa Germer and extend warmest best wishes
    2-8  to her for continued good fortune and happiness; and, be it further
    2-9        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-10  prepared for Ms. Germer as an expression of highest regard by the
   2-11  Texas House of Representatives.
