R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Ruth Franklin was recently honored in a "Celebration
1-2 of Life" reception held at the Rebekah Baines Johnson Retirement
1-3 Center in Austin as one of a number of remarkable women ranging in
1-4 age from 90 to 98 who have not only lived life but have embraced it
1-5 to the fullest; and
1-6 WHEREAS, A native of Wheatland, Oklahoma, Ms. Franklin was
1-7 born January 27, 1901, and learned the value of hard work from an
1-8 early age, having begun her career as a teacher at the age of 19
1-9 and at one time teaching on a Pueblo Indian reservation in New
1-10 Mexico where she lived 20 miles from the nearest store and could
1-11 make the long trip to town only once a month; and
1-12 WHEREAS, She later held employment as a postal clerk and has
1-13 enjoyed great proficiency as an artisan throughout her life,
1-14 engaging in watercolor painting for many years and continuing to
1-15 create precious, one-of-a-kind craft projects to this day with her
1-16 beautiful embroidery and crocheting; and
1-17 WHEREAS, When asked what advice she would pass along to
1-18 members of the younger generation, Ms. Franklin responded with
1-19 these words of wisdom, "Live the golden rule--that, and stay out of
1-20 trouble," a simple philosophy that has indeed served her well
1-21 through the years; and
1-22 WHEREAS, Ruth Franklin is a beloved member of her community
1-23 whose kindness, warmth, and generosity have touched the lives of
1-24 countless people throughout her lifetime, and it is a privilege to
2-1 recognize her at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-3 Legislature hereby honor Ruth Franklin and extend warmest best
2-4 wishes to her for continued good fortune and happiness; and, be it
2-5 further
2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-7 prepared for Ms. Franklin as an expression of highest regard by the
2-8 Texas House of Representatives.
