                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Noreen O'Kane was recently honored in a "Celebration
    1-2  of Life" reception held at the Rebekah Baines Johnson Retirement
    1-3  Center as one of a number of remarkable women ranging in age from
    1-4  90 to 98 who have not only lived life, but have embraced it to the
    1-5  fullest; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Born September 5, 1903, in Bonne Terre, Missouri,
    1-7  she was the apple of her father's eye and, following her high
    1-8  school graduation, he gave her a trip to Arizona that afforded her
    1-9  the opportunity not only to visit her Arizona relatives but also to
   1-10  meet her future husband, who was employed there as a railroad
   1-11  engineer; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, The couple in 1929 moved to Texas, where Mrs. O'Kane
   1-13  served as a valued employee of American Telegraph and Telephone
   1-14  Company over the course of the next three decades until her
   1-15  retirement in 1959; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Her ability to cheerfully balance the demands of
   1-17  career and family throughout much of her adult life can be
   1-18  attributed in part to the relaxing activities she pursued during
   1-19  her leisure hours; an adept seamstress for many years, she
   1-20  continues to enjoy spending time visiting with family and friends,
   1-21  reading, and working crossword puzzles at the age of 91; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, When asked what advice she would pass on to the
   1-23  younger generation, Mrs. O'Kane responded with these words, "Depend
   1-24  on God to help.  I wouldn't be here otherwise.  He has been my
    2-1  mainstay," and her devout faith has indeed served her well
    2-2  throughout the years; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, Noreen O'Kane is a beloved member of her community
    2-4  whose kindness, warmth, and generosity have touched the lives of
    2-5  countless people, and it is a privilege to recognize her at this
    2-6  time; now, therefore, be it
    2-7        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-8  Legislature hereby honor Noreen O'Kane and extend warmest best
    2-9  wishes to her for continued good fortune and happiness; and, be it
   2-10  further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-12  prepared for Mrs. O'Kane as an expression of highest regard by the
   2-13  Texas House of Representatives.
