No. 322 74R6400 PAN-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Irma Hurd was recently honored in a "Celebration of 1-2 Life" reception held at the Rebekah Baines Johnson Retirement 1-3 Center as one of a number of remarkable women ranging in age from 1-4 90 to 98 who have not only lived life, but have embraced it to the 1-5 fullest; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Ms. Hurd was born on March 27, 1903, in Mississippi 1-7 and moved to Texas at the age of 10, embracing the culture and 1-8 flavor of Texas with all the enthusiasm and pride of a native; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Blessed with a keen business sense and an engaging 1-10 personality, Ms. Hurd operated a cafe for a number of years and 1-11 also was an adept seamstress who enjoyed crocheting, dancing, and 1-12 swimming as well; her penchant for exercise has remained a constant 1-13 throughout her life and, at the age of 91, she continues to start 1-14 each day with a one- to two-hour walk; and 1-15 WHEREAS, When asked to reflect on her life, Ms. Hurd 1-16 responded with these words, "I think eating regularly and exercise 1-17 have helped me through the years," a simple philosophy that has 1-18 indeed served her well over the course of her lifetime; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Irma Hurd is a beloved member of her community whose 1-20 kindness, warmth, and generosity have touched the lives of 1-21 countless people, and it is a privilege to recognize her at this 1-22 time; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 1-24 Legislature hereby honor Irma Hurd and extend warmest best wishes 2-1 to her for continued good fortune and happiness; and, be it further 2-2 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-3 prepared for Ms. Hurd as an expression of highest regard by the 2-4 Texas House of Representatives.
