R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The St. Paul Lutheran Lady Lions girls' basketball
1-2 team of Thorndale has fulfilled its championship dream by winning
1-3 the 1995 Lutheran Elementary School Tournament; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Held at Concordia College in Austin, the state
1-5 tournament boasted a field of 20 exceptional teams in the girls'
1-6 division, each determined to claim the coveted crown; and
1-7 WHEREAS, The Lady Lions demonstrated true championship spirit
1-8 and pride throughout the course of the tournament, winning four
1-9 hard-fought contests to take the state title and complete their
1-10 season with a record of 15 wins and only two defeats; and
1-11 WHEREAS, The season's notable accomplishments were the result
1-12 of selfless commitment to the team concept by squad members Cheryl
1-13 Gilchrist, Jennifer Jaeger, Teri Laffere, Ashleigh Towery, Felicia
1-14 Locklin, Beth Melcher, Amber Moss, Angela Waiser, Holli Biehle,
1-15 Cassie Grimm, Krystal LaForce, and Candace Waiser; and
1-16 WHEREAS, School principal and basketball coach Rick Ryan
1-17 patiently schooled his players in hardwood fundamentals and
1-18 instilled in them an unshakable belief in their ability to claim
1-19 the state championship; during the course of the season Coach Ryan
1-20 also reached a personal milestone, notching his 500th career
1-21 victory; and
1-22 WHEREAS, This exceptional group of young women and their
1-23 coaches and staff have been a tremendous source of pride for the
1-24 students and faculty at St. Paul Lutheran School and their many
2-1 supporters in the Thorndale community, and their remarkable
2-2 achievements are indeed worthy of special legislative recognition;
2-3 now, therefore, be it
2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-5 Legislature hereby congratulate the St. Paul Lutheran Lady Lions
2-6 girls' basketball team on winning the 1995 Lutheran Elementary
2-7 School Tournament and extend to all of the team members best wishes
2-8 for continued success in the future; and, be it further
2-9 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
2-10 for the team and coaching staff and that a copy be prepared for
2-11 prominent display at St. Paul Lutheran School as an expression of
2-12 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
