                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Jennie Cox Teele of San Angelo will celebrate her
    1-2  100th birthday on April 14, 1995, and to her family and many
    1-3  delighted friends this event promises to be a joyous and truly
    1-4  memorable occasion; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, The daughter of James Felix Cox and Sarah Jane
    1-6  Burkhalter Cox, Mrs. Teele was born on April 14, 1895, in Swisher
    1-7  County, one of 12 children in this large Texas family, and was
    1-8  raised in Glasscock County, where she attended a one-room country
    1-9  school and later the Garden City School; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, At the age of 18, Mrs. Teele began work at a local
   1-11  mercantile store, an occupation that would prove quite useful in
   1-12  her later life; in 1915 she was married to her beau of five years,
   1-13  Edward Teele, and together the couple operated a ranch in Glasscock
   1-14  County and purchased the Garden City mercantile store; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, In addition to running a successful retail business,
   1-16  which she and her husband sold in 1942, Mrs. Teele was widely
   1-17  regarded as one of the state's top breeders and ranchers of
   1-18  registered Hereford cattle; throughout her life she has been active
   1-19  in the ranching profession, a livelihood that she learned from her
   1-20  parents and family members, who are still remembered for bringing
   1-21  the first sheep into Glasscock County; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Mrs. Teele, who rode her last horse at the age of
   1-23  70, still counts ranching among her many hobbies and is a mentor
   1-24  and inspiration to those who pursue this noble and difficult
    2-1  vocation; a life member of the Eastern Star and a devoted member of
    2-2  the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, she also finds time to pursue
    2-3  her interest in the painting of fine china; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, This extraordinary woman takes great pride in the
    2-5  accomplishments of her nieces and nephews, many of whom she counts
    2-6  as her dearest friends; members of the close-knit Cox family will
    2-7  be out in full force to celebrate Mrs. Teele's birthday with a
    2-8  special celebration on April 15, 1995; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, Mrs. Teele has been a source of inspiration and joy
   2-10  to those around her, and her love, generosity, and positive outlook
   2-11  have immeasurably brightened the lives of all who are privileged to
   2-12  know her; now, therefore, be it
   2-13        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-14  Legislature hereby congratulate Jennie Cox Teele on the occasion of
   2-15  her 100th birthday and extend to her warmest best wishes for
   2-16  continued happiness; and, be it further
   2-17        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-18  prepared for Mrs. Teele as an expression of high regard by the
   2-19  Texas House of Representatives.
