                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, In conjunction with Texas Public Schools Week, Flour
    1-2  Bluff Intermediate School of Corpus Christi is holding its fourth
    1-3  annual Celebrity Substitute Program, and the event promises to be a
    1-4  meaningful and enjoyable experience for all concerned; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, For the past four years, local elected officials,
    1-6  media personalities, and leaders in the fields of business,
    1-7  industry, and education have taken time out of their busy schedules
    1-8  to visit with fifth- and sixth-grade students at Flour Bluff
    1-9  Intermediate School to encourage them to stay in school and to
   1-10  pique their interest in future career opportunities; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, The innovative program was developed by teachers
   1-12  Missy Jones and Connie Garrison, who oversee the event each year
   1-13  and remain committed to its worthy goals, as does the school's
   1-14  forward-thinking principal, Kay Mecom; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Unlike past generations who were likely to follow in
   1-16  the footsteps of their parents, many young people today do not have
   1-17  a clear idea of what they would like to do with their lives when
   1-18  they are grown; the Celebrity Substitute Program has had a positive
   1-19  impact on many of these students, for by speaking with individuals
   1-20  who have become successes in various fields of endeavor, children
   1-21  are encouraged to think about their future, set goals, and take
   1-22  courses in high school that can help them realize their ambitions;
   1-23  and
   1-24        WHEREAS, Dedicated to the total development of their
    2-1  students, Flour Bluff Intermediate School and the community of
    2-2  Corpus Christi are working together to help area youth become
    2-3  happy, productive adults, and the Celebrity Substitute Program is
    2-4  indeed deserving of special legislative recognition for its
    2-5  outstanding contributions in this regard; now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-7  Legislature hereby recognize the Flour Bluff Intermediate School
    2-8  Celebrity Substitute Program and commend its dedicated organizers
    2-9  and volunteers who have worked so diligently to ensure the success
   2-10  of this worthy program since its inception; and, be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-12  prepared for prominent display at Flour Bluff Intermediate School
   2-13  as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
   2-14  Representatives.
