By Johnson H.R. No. 366 74R4699 SAJ-F R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of F. L. Miller, on February 27, 1993, 1-2 at the age of 73, has brought a great loss to the many friends and 1-3 relatives of this distinguished and public-spirited Texan; and 1-4 WHEREAS, The son of Elmus Benjamin and Lonie Bell Denby 1-5 Miller, Fearnon Learease Miller was born October 25, 1919, in 1-6 Shelby County and was a lifelong resident of Shelbyville; and 1-7 WHEREAS, A man of diverse talents and interests, Mr. Miller 1-8 pursued a variety of careers in the private sector before beginning 1-9 a distinguished 30-year association with the United States Postal 1-10 Service in 1959; he started as postmaster of the Shelbyville Post 1-11 Office and later became a rural mail carrier on Route 2; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Mr. Miller also served the Shelbyville community 1-13 through his involvement in numerous religious, civic, and community 1-14 projects; in 1981, he organized the Shelbyville Volunteer Fire 1-15 Department, and he served as fire chief for three terms; and 1-16 WHEREAS, His friends and neighbors also depended upon him to 1-17 administer their water supply, and as operator for the Five Way, 1-18 McClelland, and Shelbyville water systems, he served as the first 1-19 and only operator of both the Shelbyville and McClelland systems; 1-20 and 1-21 WHEREAS, Throughout his life, he always made time in his busy 1-22 schedule to enjoy his favorite pastimes, which included hunting and 1-23 spending time with family and friends; his family meant more to 1-24 him than any worldly goods, and he spent many happy hours 2-1 entertaining them with colorful stories of his childhood and life; 2-2 and 2-3 WHEREAS, Mr. Miller was guided throughout life's endeavors by 2-4 an abiding religious faith, which he eloquently expressed as a 2-5 member and deacon of Ephesus Baptist Church in Hurstown; and 2-6 WHEREAS, A man of great energy and enthusiasm, he devoted 2-7 much of his life to the betterment of his community, and though his 2-8 presence will be deeply missed, his unique spirit will surely live 2-9 on in the hearts and minds of the many people whose lives he 2-10 touched; now, therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the 74th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute 2-12 to the life of F. L. Miller and extend sincere sympathy to the 2-13 members of his family: to his daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth 2-14 Gunter, Wynema and Steve Payne, and Renita and Kelvin Hudman; to 2-15 his son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Linda Miller; to his 2-16 grandchildren, Steve, Seth, and Spenser Payne, Reid and Ryan 2-17 Miller, Amy Hudman, Christie Adams, and Craig Gunter; and to his 2-18 many other friends and relatives; and, be it further 2-19 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-20 prepared for the members of his family, and that when the Texas 2-21 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-22 F. L. Miller.
