R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, March 12, 1995, is a day of special significance for
1-2 Brother Paul D. Jones, for on that day he is celebrating his 25th
1-3 anniversary in the pulpit of North Wayside Church of Christ; and
1-4 WHEREAS, A native Texan, he was born on October 24, 1936, in
1-5 Riverside and learned the value of hard work from an early age as
1-6 one of eight children born into the close-knit family of Fred and
1-7 Lenora Jones; and
1-8 WHEREAS, In his youth, Brother Jones received his early
1-9 education in the public schools of Huntsville and went on to
1-10 proudly serve his country as a member of the U.S. Army for several
1-11 years, during which time he saw active duty in Germany; and
1-12 WHEREAS, When Brother Jones first came to North Wayside
1-13 Church of Christ in March 1970, he brought to his new position a
1-14 wealth of valuable experience and education that he had obtained
1-15 through many years of learned study as well as previous positions
1-16 he had held that had drawn on his talents as a teacher and a
1-17 counselor; and
1-18 WHEREAS, This outstanding clergyman holds an associate's
1-19 degree in Christian education, a bachelor's degree in religion and
1-20 philosophy, an additional bachelor's degree in theology, and a
1-21 master's degree in educational guidance and counseling, having
1-22 amassed these impressive credentials through course work taken at
1-23 eight different institutions of higher learning, including Texas
1-24 Southern University, Rice University, Friends University, and
2-1 Pepperdine University; and
2-2 WHEREAS, Only the second minister to have served the church,
2-3 Brother Jones has led the congregration through a particularly
2-4 vibrant and rewarding period in its rich history, and his wisdom,
2-5 strong faith, and expert guidance have brought about a renewed
2-6 sense of purpose and fellowship among its members; and
2-7 WHEREAS, Widely regarded for his spiritual guidance, Brother
2-8 Jones has also given generously of his time and talents to projects
2-9 outside the church and has greatly benefited the Settegast
2-10 community for many years through his outstanding leadership; and
2-11 WHEREAS, In the course of pursuing his many interests,
2-12 Brother Jones has been blessed with the support of his devoted wife
2-13 and three children, each of whom regard him as an endless source of
2-14 joy and inspiration; and
2-15 WHEREAS, In Brother Jones, the church has found a dynamic
2-16 preacher and a stalwart friend for the work of the Lord; his
2-17 religious guidance has provided comfort and inspiration to
2-18 countless individuals, and he is indeed worthy of our highest
2-19 praise and recognition as he celebrates a quarter century of
2-20 service to North Wayside Church of Christ; now, therefore, be it
2-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-22 Legislature hereby commend Brother Paul D. Jones for his
2-23 outstanding service as minister of North Wayside Church of Christ
2-24 and extend warmest best wishes to him for continued success and
2-25 fulfillment in the years to come; and, be it further
2-26 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-27 prepared for Brother Jones as an expression of high regard by the
3-1 Texas House of Representatives.
