                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, March 25, 1995, is a day of great significance for
    1-2  the Honorable Ed Harris, an esteemed former member of this chamber,
    1-3  and his wife, June Harris, of Galveston, for on this day they will
    1-4  celebrate the momentous occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary
    1-5  amidst family and friends at a special luncheon being held in their
    1-6  honor; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, A native Texan, Judge Harris first met his lovely
    1-8  bride on  March 19, 1945, at the evening service of the First
    1-9  Methodist Church in San Diego, California, and after only three
   1-10  dates, married the girl of his dreams the following Sunday, March
   1-11  25; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, At the time of their union, both were in the
   1-13  military; Mr. Harris was serving in the navy as the pilot of a B-24
   1-14  Privateer while his charming bride was aiding the war effort as a
   1-15  member of the Marine Corps Women's Reserve; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, After the close of the war, the devoted couple
   1-17  returned to Mrs. Harris's native Wisconsin,  where Mr. Harris
   1-18  attended the University of Wisconsin Law School and Mrs. Harris
   1-19  served as justice of the peace in the community of Lake Mills;  and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Mr. Harris was graduated from law school with
   1-21  honors in 1948, and shortly thereafter the couple moved to Texas
   1-22  and settled in Galveston; it was in that historic community by the
   1-23  sea that Mr. Harris organized the law firm of Harris, Martin,
   1-24  Carmona, Cruse, Micks, and Dunten and served as a respected partner
    2-1  in the firm for the next 25 years; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, In 1961, he embarked on his outstanding career in
    2-3  public service, serving two years on the Galveston City Council, 14
    2-4  years as a member of the Texas House of Representatives, and 16
    2-5  years as the judge of the 10th District Court in Galveston County;
    2-6  in retirement, this respected jurist continues to serve the
    2-7  judicial system of Texas as a retired senior visiting judge and as
    2-8  a mediator; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, Throughout their married life, the Harrises have
   2-10  been blessed with a fine family, and today they enjoy the love and
   2-11  affection of their son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Linda
   2-12  Harris, their daughter  and son-in-law, Ann and Larry Jones, and
   2-13  four beloved grandchildren, Kevin, Tracy, Mari, and Richard; and
   2-14        WHEREAS, For half a century,  Ed and June Harris have shared
   2-15  a strong and lasting marriage filled with many happy times and
   2-16  cherished family memories; built on a solid foundation of mutual
   2-17  love, trust, and support, their life together has indeed been a
   2-18  source of joy and inspiration for the many friends  and relatives
   2-19  of this fortunate couple; now, therefore, be it
   2-20        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-21  Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable  Ed Harris and June
   2-22  Harris on the joyous occasion of their  golden wedding anniversary
   2-23  and extend sincere best wishes to them for continued happiness in
   2-24  the years to come; and, be it further
   2-25        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-26  prepared for the Harrises as an expression of high regard by the
   2-27  Texas House of Representatives.
