                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
    1-2  Ken Vest for his accomplishments in the field of journalism; and
    1-3        WHEREAS, Born on March 27, 1945, in Enid, Oklahoma, Mr. Vest
    1-4  was rescued from having to grow up an Okie by his father, who moved
    1-5  his family to Houston, Texas, in the 1950s in search of
    1-6  opportunity, having realized there was precious little of it to be
    1-7  found in the Sooner State; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Embracing the culture and flavor of Texas with the
    1-9  enthusiasm of a native Texan, Mr. Vest thrived in Houston and went
   1-10  on to graduate from the country club at the other end of River Oaks
   1-11  Boulevard, Lamar High School, in 1963; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, After service in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam
   1-13  War, Mr. Vest earned a degree from Southwest Texas State University
   1-14  in 1971; in doing so, he joined the ranks of distinguished alumni
   1-15  of the school, including President Lyndon Baines Johnson, though
   1-16  Mr. Vest has yet to be notified that the university will be
   1-17  observing his birthday each year as a holiday; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, Overcoming his shy, retiring nature, this
   1-19  accomplished journalist embarked on a career in television and
   1-20  quickly made a name for himself at stations in Wyoming, Austin, San
   1-21  Francisco, and Providence, and the integrity, professionalism, and
   1-22  accuracy with which he reported the news earned him numerous
   1-23  accolades as well as the respect and admiration of his colleagues;
   1-24  and
    2-1        WHEREAS, In recent years, Mr. Vest also has achieved great
    2-2  success in the field of public relations and has been blessed
    2-3  throughout all his professional endeavors by the support of his
    2-4  devoted wife, Sue, and the couple's two children, Jeremy and Jesse;
    2-5  and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Wherever his career has taken him, Ken Vest has
    2-7  always distinguished himself as a fitting goodwill ambassador for
    2-8  the State of Texas; the occasion of his 50th birthday is an
    2-9  opportune time to honor this fine gentleman for his notable
   2-10  accomplishments and to remind him that there will always be a place
   2-11  for him beneath the eternal light of the Lone Star; now, therefore,
   2-12  be it
   2-13        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-14  Legislature hereby recognize Ken Vest for his exceptional
   2-15  achievements in the field of journalism and extend to him warmest
   2-16  best wishes for continued happiness and success in the coming
   2-17  years; and, be it further
   2-18        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-19  prepared for Mr. Vest as an expression of high regard by the Texas
   2-20  House of Representatives.
