                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The passing of Ola Mae McDonald, on March 1, 1995,
    1-2  at the age of 86, has brought a great loss to the many friends and
    1-3  relatives of this fine lady; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, A native of Denton, she was born December 2, 1908,
    1-5  and as a young woman married Martelle McDonald in the community of
    1-6  Big Spring; the happy couple went on to enjoy a deeply fulfilling
    1-7  union that lasted 28 years until Mr. McDonald's passing in 1960;
    1-8  and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Mrs. McDonald was well regarded for her 37 years of
   1-10  service as a classroom teacher in Big Spring and Ector County and
   1-11  in the course of her career served as a positive role model to
   1-12  generations of students; she continued to maintain an active
   1-13  involvement in the teaching profession after her retirement through
   1-14  her leadership of the Retired Teachers Association; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, An enthusiastic and energetic woman, she was well
   1-16  regarded in political circles as an active member of the local
   1-17  Republican Party, and her outstanding efforts in that regard
   1-18  contributed greatly to the party's strength in the region; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Mrs. McDonald also was deeply committed to community
   1-20  service and generously gave of her time, talent, and energies to
   1-21  the benefit of the Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary and the Odessa
   1-22  Study Club; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, She was a warm and gracious lady and also enjoyed
   1-24  the many close friendships she formed as a member of the Delta
    2-1  Kappa Gamma society, which honored her as the First Lady of Odessa
    2-2  in 1982; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, The qualities that endeared her to so many emanated
    2-4  from a deep and abiding religious faith, which she eloquently
    2-5  expressed as a devout member of First Baptist Church; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, This exceptional woman touched the lives of many
    2-7  people during her long and fruitful life, and, though her presence
    2-8  will be deeply missed, her memory will endure in the hearts and
    2-9  minds of all those who came to know and love her; now, therefore,
   2-10  be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-12  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Ola Mae McDonald and
   2-13  extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family:  to her
   2-14  daughter and sons-in-law, Margaret and Carl Beard, of Odessa, and
   2-15  Tommy Salmon, of Odessa; to her six grandchildren; to her 14
   2-16  great-grandchildren; and to the many other friends and relatives of
   2-17  this beloved woman; and, be it further
   2-18        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-19  prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
   2-20  House of Representatives adjourns this day it do so in memory of
   2-21  Ola Mae McDonald.
