H.R. No. 387 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Vanguard High School Lady Vikings basketball 1-2 team has again ascended to the pinnacle of success, winning the 1-3 1995 Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) 1-4 Class 2A basketball championship; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Although few athletic programs can attain the goal 1-6 of a state title, fewer still can marshal the dedication and drive 1-7 to repeatedly claim the championship crown, a feat the Lady Vikings 1-8 have accomplished for a remarkable four consecutive years; and 1-9 WHEREAS, This year's championship season was a result of 1-10 total team effort and selfless contributions from members Joy 1-11 McDowell, Katie Thyen, Emily Fowler, Jane Lacy, Leah Nichols, Leigh 1-12 Beaty, Holin Gummelt, Lauren Copeland, Alicia Johnston, Emily 1-13 Harrison, Megan Thomas, Laura Hering, and Kacie Carter; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Outstanding leadership and guidance were provided by 1-15 head coach Mark Meyers, who has built the Vanguard High School 1-16 program into a basketball dynasty, and he was ably supported in his 1-17 efforts by assistant coach Darin Tompkins; and 1-18 WHEREAS, This exemplary group of young women with their 1-19 coaches and staff have been a tremendous source of pride to the 1-20 students and faculty at Vanguard High School and their many 1-21 supporters in the community, and their exceptional achievements 1-22 truly merit special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 1-24 Legislature hereby congratulate the Vanguard High School Lady 2-1 Vikings basketball team on winning the 1995 TAPPS Class 2A 2-2 championship, the fourth consecutive year the team has accomplished 2-3 that remarkable goal, and extend to the players and coaches best 2-4 wishes for continued success in the future; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-6 for the team members and coaching staff and that a copy be prepared 2-7 for prominent display at Vanguard High School as an expression of 2-8 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
