                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, John Schneider is a highly acclaimed celebrity who
    1-2  has won a widespread following among countless Texans and citizens
    1-3  the world over for his extensive achievements as a gifted actor,
    1-4  country music performer, and humanitarian; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Many of us first became acquainted with
    1-6  Mr. Schneider in 1978 when he created the lovable character of Bo
    1-7  Duke in the long-running hit television series, The Dukes of
    1-8  Hazzard; building on that success, he has gone on to star in 14
    1-9  network television movies, including Highway Heartbreaker,
   1-10  Desperate Journey, The Allison Wilcox Story, and three shows for
   1-11  NBC's Wonderful World of Disney, entitled Wild Jack; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Moving from television to Broadway, this versatile
   1-13  performer debuted in the Tony Award winning musical, Grand Hotel,
   1-14  in which he enjoyed such phenomenal success that he attracted the
   1-15  attention of the producers of ABC's popular soap, Loving, who
   1-16  created the role of Larry Lamont especially for Mr. Schneider; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, His many dedicated fans will soon have the pleasure
   1-18  of seeing Mr. Schneider return to weekly television in the
   1-19  nationally syndicated series, Heaven Help Us, and also will have
   1-20  the opportunity to watch him portray Davy Crockett in the
   1-21  mini-series of James Michener's sweeping bestseller, Texas, later
   1-22  this spring; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Though he is known foremost for his accomplishments
   1-24  as an actor, Mr. Schneider has in recent years, taken the field of
    2-1  country music by storm, having delighted audiences throughout the
    2-2  world with the beauty of his voice, and his outstanding body of
    2-3  work has earned him numerous number one singles and four hit
    2-4  albums; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, Blessed with a wealth of compassion that rivals his
    2-6  talent, Mr. Schneider is the cofounder and cochairman of the
    2-7  Children's Miracle Network, which holds a popular yearly telethon
    2-8  that has become the largest fund-raiser of its kind in the world;
    2-9  in 1994 alone, the telethon raised more than $120 million for
   2-10  distribution to children's hospitals in the United States and
   2-11  Canada, and its extensive contributions in this regard have helped
   2-12  to ensure a brighter future for many children in need; and
   2-13        WHEREAS, In 1994, this fine gentleman moved with his wife,
   2-14  Elly, and his three children, Karis, Leah, and Chasen, to the Alamo
   2-15  City, and it gives the members of this chamber great pleasure to
   2-16  recognize this welcome new resident to the Lone Star State at this
   2-17  time; now, therefore, be it
   2-18        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-19  Legislature hereby commend John Schneider for his many significant
   2-20  contributions to the citizens of this state and nation as an actor,
   2-21  musical performer, and humanitarian; and, be it further
   2-22        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-23  prepared for Mr. Schneider as an expression of highest regard by
   2-24  the Texas House of Representatives.
