                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, On March 5, 1995, Courtney Culver was crowned the
    1-2  winner of the 1995 Miss Teenage Texas Pageant, and this special
    1-3  recognition is indeed well deserved; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Ms. Culver is a 17-year-old honors student at Lamar
    1-5  Consolidated High School, where she has lettered in both athletics
    1-6  and academics, having excelled as a member of the Lamar Fillies
    1-7  drill team, as a two-year member of the tennis team, and as a
    1-8  member of the National Honor Society who ranks in the top four
    1-9  percent of her class; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Active in student council as well, she has
   1-11  distinguished herself as president of the freshman class, president
   1-12  of the sophomore class, junior class representative, and cochair of
   1-13  the elections committee; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Ms. Culver currently serves as an officer of the
   1-15  junior class and the Lamar Chorale, as a member of the assistant
   1-16  principal's cabinet, and as a French club officer and will soon
   1-17  represent her school for the second time as a participant in the
   1-18  State French Symposium; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, A well-rounded student, Ms. Culver has served the
   1-20  greater community as an enthusiastic volunteer at a local family
   1-21  medical clinic and as a candy striper at Polly Ryon Memorial
   1-22  Hospital in Richmond; she also is an active member of the youth
   1-23  choir at her church and has shared her valuable insight to the
   1-24  benefit of her peers as a two-year member of the district's
    2-1  superintendent's advisory council; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, This outstanding young woman is a source of great
    2-3  pride to her parents, Judge and Mrs. Thomas R. Culver III of
    2-4  Richmond, to her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. V. O. Carden,
    2-5  Sr., of East Bernard, to her paternal grandmother, Mrs. T. R.
    2-6  Culver, Jr., of Abilene, and to the students and faculty of Lamar
    2-7  Consolidated High School; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, Before winning her most recent title, Ms. Culver was
    2-9  crowned Homecoming Duchess and named in Best of the Best at her
   2-10  school, and she also is the reigning 1994-1995 Fort Bend County
   2-11  Fair Queen; and
   2-12        WHEREAS, For her achievement in being named Miss Teenage
   2-13  Texas, Ms. Culver received a number of exciting prizes, including a
   2-14  $5,000 scholarship to attend the college of her choice, an award
   2-15  that will no doubt be of great assistance to Ms. Culver as she
   2-16  continues to work toward her goal of completing college and medical
   2-17  school to become a surgeon; and
   2-18        WHEREAS, With her vivacious personality and natural charm,
   2-19  Courtney Culver makes friends quickly wherever she goes; talented
   2-20  and gracious, she will surely prove an excellent goodwill
   2-21  ambassador as she represents our state at the Miss Teen North
   2-22  America Pageant this summer; now, therefore, be it
   2-23        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-24  Legislature hereby congratulate Courtney Culver on winning the 1995
   2-25  Miss Teenage Texas Pageant and extend to her sincere best wishes
   2-26  for continued success as a contestant in the Miss Teen North
   2-27  America Pageant; and, be it further
    3-1        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    3-2  prepared for Ms. Culver, her parents, and her grandparents as an
    3-3  expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
