                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, By executive order, the governor in 1994 created the
    1-2  Sesquicentennial Committee to coordinate and assist in the planning
    1-3  of statewide celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of Texas'
    1-4  achievement of statehood; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, The committee and its Events Subcommittee have
    1-6  scheduled an eight-month series of events to commence with a
    1-7  special ceremony in Austin on June 16; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, That date, representative of a significant milestone
    1-9  on the road to statehood, marks the sesquicentennial of the calling
   1-10  of the Congress of the Republic of Texas by President Anson Jones
   1-11  to consider the alternative of annexation to the United States; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, The Sesquicentennial Committee and Events
   1-13  Subcommittee plan for that day the unveiling of a commemorative
   1-14  postage stamp of the United States Postal Service honoring a
   1-15  century and a half of Texas statehood; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Organizers have requested use of the house chamber,
   1-17  and the Texas House of Representatives finds it a fitting occasion
   1-18  and a pleasure to contribute to this commemoration of Texas'
   1-19  history as a state; now, therefore, be it
   1-20        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th
   1-21  Legislature hereby grant permission to the Sesquicentennial
   1-22  Committee and its Events Subcommittee, in accordance with house
   1-23  rules and the policies of the Committee on House Administration, to
   1-24  use the house chamber on Friday, June 16, 1995, provided that the
    2-1  house is not in session, for the observance of the State of Texas
    2-2  Sesquicentennial.
