                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The continued existence of an orderly society
    1-2  depends upon active participation and informed decision-making by
    1-3  the electorate, and citizens who vote can be proud of the role they
    1-4  play in maintaining the democratic way of life for which
    1-5  generations of Texans have fought, sacrificed, and died; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, In recent years voter turnout and confidence in
    1-7  government has declined significantly, making it more important
    1-8  than ever that voters throughout the state be commended for their
    1-9  decision to participate in the electoral process; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Traditionally, the Texas Legislature has designated
   1-11  special days and weeks in order to encourage public participation
   1-12  and interest in a wide variety of activities, organizations, and
   1-13  events, and it is indeed fitting at this time that a special week
   1-14  be designated to pay tribute to Texans who exercise their right to
   1-15  vote; now, therefore, be it
   1-16        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   1-17  Legislature hereby designate the first week of November as Voter
   1-18  Appreciation Week in Texas and encourage its observance in
   1-19  communities and public institutions throughout the state.
