No. 434 74R8508 PAN-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The wedding anniversary of two outstanding Texans 1-2 who have shared half a century of matrimonial bliss is indeed a 1-3 joyous occasion worthy of special recognition; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Bob and Katherine Wilson of Fort Worth will 1-5 celebrate one such momentous occasion in their lives when they 1-6 commemorate their golden wedding anniversary on March 21, 1995, to 1-7 the delight of their extensive circle of family and friends; and 1-8 WHEREAS, A distinguished veteran, Mr. Wilson was assigned to 1-9 Kelly Field in San Antonio as a member of the Army Air Corps at the 1-10 time he first made the acquaintance of his future bride, the former 1-11 Katherine Thorp, when the two became members of the same youth 1-12 group in the spring of 1942; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Their relationship soon blossomed and marriage plans 1-14 were discussed, but before the two could be wed, Mr. Wilson was 1-15 sent to North Africa for a 2-1/2-year tour of duty and their plans 1-16 were put on hold; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Mr. Wilson returned stateside for temporary duty in 1-18 March of 1945 and called his intended from New York, asking her to 1-19 meet him at his mother's home in Washington so the two could be 1-20 married; she accepted and on March 21, 1945, the Wilsons were 1-21 united in marriage by Missionary Reverend Muench in Soap Lake, 1-22 Washington; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Just as Mr. Wilson was scheduled to return overseas, 1-24 fate lent a hand to the newlyweds, and he was reassigned to Tarrant 2-1 Army Airfield, now Carswell Air Force Base, in Fort Worth; the 2-2 couple relocated several times and remained in Boise, Idaho, 2-3 following Mr. Wilson's discharge from the military on October 25, 2-4 1945; and 2-5 WHEREAS, It was in that community that the couple were 2-6 blessed by the birth of their first child, Don, on February 27, 2-7 1946; shortly thereafter, Mr. Wilson claims to have been lassoed 2-8 and brought back to Texas by his lovely wife, who gave birth to 2-9 their second child, Nancy, on February 29, 1948; and 2-10 WHEREAS, The Wilsons bought a home in the River Oaks area of 2-11 Fort Worth, where they have become cherished members of the 2-12 community in the ensuing years; and 2-13 WHEREAS, Both have enjoyed successful careers as well; 2-14 Mr. Wilson served as a valued employee of Bell Helicopter, Textron, 2-15 for 19 years while Mrs. Wilson distinguished herself throughout an 2-16 outstanding 29-year tenure with the Castleberry Independent School 2-17 District; and 2-18 WHEREAS, Before and during their retirement years, the 2-19 Wilsons have shared their considerable leadership abilities with a 2-20 number of worthy organizations, including the Castleberry ISD 2-21 Action Team, the Drug Task Force, Meals on Wheels, Christmas in 2-22 April, the River Oaks Area Business Association, the River Oaks 2-23 Parks Board, the Boy Scouts of America, and the Northwest Church of 2-24 Christ; and 2-25 WHEREAS, This fine couple has been honored on numerous 2-26 occasions for their exceptional civic service, having each been 2-27 named Citizen of the Year by the community of River Oaks and named 3-1 the recipient of the most prestigious volunteer award given by the 3-2 Boy Scouts of America, the Silver Beaver Award; in addition, 3-3 Mrs. Wilson was commissioned a Yellow Rose of Texas by former Texas 3-4 Governor Ann Richards for her exemplary service to others; and 3-5 WHEREAS, Through the years, the Wilsons have been filled with 3-6 pride as their close-knit family has grown to include Don's wife, 3-7 Phyllis, and Nancy's husband, James, and they also have shared the 3-8 joy of becoming the grandparents of three beloved granddaughters, 3-9 Stephanie, Stacy, and Susan; and 3-10 WHEREAS, For half a century, the Wilsons have enjoyed a 3-11 strong and lasting marriage filled with many happy times and 3-12 cherished family memories; built on a solid foundation of mutual 3-13 love, trust, and support, their marriage has indeed been a source 3-14 of inspiration to the many friends and relatives of this fortunate 3-15 pair; now, therefore, be it 3-16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 3-17 Legislature hereby congratulate Bob and Katherine Wilson on the 3-18 momentous occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to 3-19 them warmest best wishes for continued good fortune in the years to 3-20 come; and, be it further 3-21 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-22 prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Wilson as an expression of highest regard 3-23 by the Texas House of Representatives.
