No. 435 74R7524 PFG-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, A team of gifted students from Friendswood High 1-2 School recently achieved outstanding success by winning first place 1-3 in the Division 5A championship of the academic decathlon 1-4 competition for the third consecutive year; and 1-5 WHEREAS, This accomplished group of juniors and seniors swept 1-6 19 other schools from around the state in the medium school 1-7 division, capturing all nine individual top honors and thousands of 1-8 dollars in scholarship money; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The academic decathlon tests the knowledge of 1-10 competitors in a wide variety of demanding subject areas ranging 1-11 from social studies to economics, in addition to a topic selected 1-12 for the exciting Super Quiz event, and requires sharp minds and 1-13 countless hours of hard work and study to prepare for the event; 1-14 and 1-15 WHEREAS, Top scorers for the Friendswood team were seniors 1-16 Sam Jacobs, John Willis, and Gordy Martin, whose impressive display 1-17 of academic mastery won each of them $2,000 in scholarship money; 1-18 and 1-19 WHEREAS, Coaches Pepper Smith and Ruth Ann Krajefska are to 1-20 be commended for their hard work in preparing their young charges 1-21 for this rigorous competition and for providing them with the 1-22 inspiration and drive to do their very best; and 1-23 WHEREAS, The success of the Friendswood High School team in 1-24 statewide academic decathlon competition is directly attributable 2-1 to the superb performances of its talented team members, including 2-2 Dom Orlando, Sam Jacobs, John Willis, Gordy Martin, Brice Beale, 2-3 Jay Ring, David Ulbrich, Virginia Pedicord, and Kyle Herbert; and 2-4 WHEREAS, These dedicated students have once again brought 2-5 well-deserved recognition to their school and community through 2-6 their tremendous performance in the academic decathlon competition; 2-7 their intelligence and determination represent the finest qualities 2-8 of our state's young people, and accordingly merit our highest 2-9 praise and recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-11 Legislature hereby congratulate the members of the Friendswood High 2-12 School academic decathlon team on the team's extraordinary third 2-13 straight win in statewide academic decathlon competition; and, be 2-14 it further 2-15 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-16 prepared for the members of the Friendswood High School academic 2-17 decathlon team and Coaches Pepper Smith and Ruth Ann Krajefska as 2-18 an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
