                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
    1-2  the Texas Association of Future Homemakers of America for 50 years
    1-3  of exceptional service to the young men and women of our state and
    1-4  joins with the organization in celebrating the theme of its
    1-5  anniversary, "50 Years Leading the Way--Families, Careers and
    1-6  Communities"; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Future Homemakers of America was founded June 11,
    1-8  1945, in Chicago, and the Lone Star State was one of the first to
    1-9  receive a state charter; moreover, Texas leaders were instrumental
   1-10  in developing the national organization and later held the first
   1-11  state meeting in Austin in 1946; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, For a half a century, this outstanding organization
   1-13  has helped students become innovative and effective leaders by
   1-14  addressing important personal, family, work, and societal issues
   1-15  through vocational home economics education, and it has had a
   1-16  positive impact on the lives of more than nine million youths
   1-17  throughout its proud history; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, The program is unique among youth organizations
   1-19  because its activities are planned and run by student members;
   1-20  participation in national projects and chapter activities helps
   1-21  youths develop crucial "skills for life," including planning, goal
   1-22  setting, problem solving, and decision making; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, In addition, the organization helps its young
   1-24  members to hone their interpersonal communication skills as they
    2-1  work with other youths and adults in their school and community;
    2-2  and
    2-3        WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Future Homemakers of
    2-4  America has contributed greatly to the social fiber of our state as
    2-5  it has helped countless youths learn to manage a wide variety of
    2-6  roles and responsibilities, thus fostering family life, community
    2-7  service, and economic development, and its dedicated efforts in
    2-8  this regard are truly worthy of special recognition; now,
    2-9  therefore, be it
   2-10        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-11  Legislature hereby commend the Texas Association of Future
   2-12  Homemakers of America on its exemplary record of public service and
   2-13  congratulate the organization on the occasion of its 50th
   2-14  anniversary; and, be it further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-16  prepared for the members of the Texas Association of Future
   2-17  Homemakers of America as an expression of high regard by the Texas
   2-18  House of Representatives.
