                                  R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The members of the Nomad Shrine Club will celebrate
1-2 the opening of the Rio Grande Valley's first outreach burn clinic
1-3 with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony at the club's headquarters
1-4 in the community of Pharr on March 17, 1995; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Founded in 1960, the Nomad Shrine Club operates
1-6 under the auspices of the Al Amin Temple of Corpus Christi and,
1-7 since its inception, has assisted the members of the Rio Grande
1-8 Valley Shrine Club with delivering burned and crippled children in
1-9 desperate need of medical attention to hospitals in Galveston and
1-10 Houston; through the years, the Nomad Shriners have assumed greater
1-11 responsibility for the project, and their dedication to its worthy
1-12 goals has resulted in their having taken the lead in fulfilling
1-13 this important task in recent years; and
1-14 WHEREAS, The members of this exceptional organization also
1-15 transport Mexican children from the border to an orthopedic
1-16 outreach clinic and remain with the children through all stages of
1-17 medical treatment, providing support to their charges, as well as
1-18 to doctors and other health care personnel; and
1-19 WHEREAS, To accomplish their valuable mission, club members
1-20 travel thousands of miles each year to cover the vast distances
1-21 between border communities and large metropolitan areas; in 1994
1-22 alone, the group made 84 trips totaling 148,000 miles, and on
1-23 average the members wear out one of their fleet of five vans each
1-24 year as a result of extensive mileage; and
2-1 WHEREAS, The new outreach burn clinic will be the first of
2-2 its kind in the Valley and will provide much-needed medical
2-3 services to children in Texas, Mexico, and New Mexico; perhaps most
2-4 important, however, is the impact the clinic will have in
2-5 significantly cutting the time needed to transport these young
2-6 patients, which will undoubtedly enhance their treatment and
    2-7 recovery; and
2-8 WHEREAS, The outstanding efforts of the Nomad Shriners have
2-9 positively benefited numerous children in need of critical health
2-10 care treatment in Texas and Mexico, and the group's members indeed
2-11 merit our highest praise and recognition for their superb efforts
2-12 in this regard; now, therefore, be it
2-13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-14 Legislature hereby commend the Nomad Shrine Club for its
2-15 extraordinary humanitarian efforts and extend sincere best wishes
2-16 to club officers Hal Angelroth, Marvin Miller, Herb Walther, Blair
2-17 Whistler, and Noe Garza and to the other Nomad Shriners for their
