                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The East Central High School Hornets boys'
    1-2  basketball team has ascended to the pinnacle of success, winning
    1-3  the 1995 University Interscholastic League (UIL) Class 5A state
    1-4  championship and finishing the season undefeated; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Taking the floor of the Frank C. Erwin, Jr., Special
    1-6  Events Center in Austin in a state semifinal matchup, the Hornets,
    1-7  the state's number one rated team, lived up to their ranking,
    1-8  overwhelming El Paso Riverside High School 107-94; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, East Central faced Dallas Carter High School in the
   1-10  5A championship game and dominated the Dallas team at both ends of
   1-11  the floor en route to a 108-86 victory, setting state tournament
   1-12  records for tournament team scoring and championship game team high
   1-13  scoring; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Although each player made significant contributions
   1-15  to the team's overall success, Stanley Bonewitz, Jr., and Donte
   1-16  Mathis also earned individual honors as members of the All-State
   1-17  tournament team; Bonewitz's record-setting 78 points during the
   1-18  tournament also earned him designation as tournament most valuable
   1-19  player; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Head coach Stanley Bonewitz tirelessly labored to
   1-21  mold his players' individual skills into the team concept, and his
   1-22  exceptional efforts in this regard helped to make this East Central
   1-23  squad an unstoppable basketball juggernaut; averaging 108.9 points
   1-24  per game, the Hornets posted a perfect 35-0 mark and attained
    2-1  national recognition and a ranking among the top 10 teams in the
    2-2  country; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, This exemplary group of young men and their coaches
    2-4  and staff have been a tremendous source of pride to the students
    2-5  and faculty of East Central High School and their many supporters
    2-6  in the community, and their outstanding achievements are indeed
    2-7  worthy of special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-9  Legislature hereby congratulate the East Central High School
   2-10  Hornets boys' basketball team on winning the 1995 UIL Class 5A
   2-11  basketball championship and extend best wishes for continued
   2-12  success in the future; and, be it further
   2-13        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
   2-14  for the team members and coaching staff and that a copy be prepared
   2-15  for prominent display at East Central High School as an expression
   2-16  of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
