By Davis H.R. No. 451 74R8791 KMP-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 E. Rochelle Brown for her many outstanding achievements in the 1-3 field of broadcast journalism and for the invaluable contributions 1-4 she has made to the community of Dallas and the State of Texas; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A graduate of Dallas public schools and of Southern 1-6 Methodist University, this award-winning broadcaster began her 1-7 career at two Texas television stations before working for NBC News 1-8 in New York City and hosting her own program in Rochester, New 1-9 York; she wisely returned to the Lone Star State in 1978, 1-10 immediately taking the Dallas metroplex by storm with her 1-11 innovative and intelligent approach to reporting local news 1-12 stories; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Ms. Brown is perhaps best known to metroplex viewers 1-14 as the developer, executive producer, and original host of 1-15 "Insights," a show that has featured some of our state's most 1-16 talented and popular broadcasters and photojournalists; nominated 1-17 for several Emmy awards, "Insights" has also garnered countless 1-18 awards from both local and national broadcasting organizations; and 1-19 WHEREAS, As multicultural affairs director for KDFW-TV, 1-20 Ms. Brown today serves as a liaison between the station and the 1-21 many ethnic communities that it serves, helping to ensure that the 1-22 diverse cultures of Texas are represented in local programming and 1-23 news coverage; this exceptional individual also recruits students 1-24 for the station's nationally recognized summer internship program 2-1 and works closely with station directors to provide professional 2-2 opportunities for women and minority broadcasters; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Ms. Brown is recognized by thousands of children 2-4 throughout the KDFW-TV viewing area as a result of the many 2-5 personal appearances she makes each year as a member of the 2-6 station's "Adopt-A-School" program; committed to improving the 2-7 quality of public education in our state, she founded a mentoring 2-8 program for high school students that has met with great success 2-9 during its first four years of operation; and 2-10 WHEREAS, This dedicated Texan is well-known for her 2-11 involvement in a number of community organizations and currently 2-12 serves on boards and advisory committees for a number of important 2-13 civic groups, including Dallas Women Together, Literacy for 2-14 America/North Texas, the Dallas Society for the Prevention of 2-15 Cruelty to Animals, and the Greater Dallas Community Relations 2-16 Commission; her interest in educational issues is reflected by her 2-17 work with the Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce partners in 2-18 education committee; and 2-19 WHEREAS, One of our state's most distinguished broadcasters, 2-20 Ms. Brown has received one of the most prestigious awards in 2-21 journalism, the Alfred I. Dupont Award, for her news series 2-22 "Children Having Children"; named an Outstanding Young Texan by the 2-23 Texas Black Political Caucus, she has been nationally recognized by 2-24 Dollars & Sense magazine as one of America's Brightest and Best 2-25 Business Women and was recently inducted into the Dollars & Sense 2-26 Hall of Fame; and 2-27 WHEREAS, In light of her many outstanding achievements, it is 3-1 indeed appropriate at this time that Ms. Brown be given special 3-2 legislative recognition and support; now, therefore, be it 3-3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 3-4 Legislature hereby commend E. Rochelle Brown for her exceptional 3-5 contributions to her profession, community, and state and extend to 3-6 her warmest best wishes for continued happiness and success in her 3-7 future endeavors; and, be it further 3-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-9 prepared for Ms. Brown as an expression of highest regard by the 3-10 Texas House of Representatives.
