                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas Southern University Tigers basketball team
    1-2  has achieved outstanding success during the 1994-1995 season,
    1-3  winning the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championship
    1-4  and earning its second consecutive bid to the NCAA basketball
    1-5  tournament; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, The Tigers began the defense of their 1994 SWAC
    1-7  tournament title against Grambling State University and overwhelmed
    1-8  their opponent 100-63 to advance to the championship game; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Although SWAC player-of-the-year Kevin Granger
   1-10  suffered an injured ankle in the championship contest, Texas
   1-11  Southern refused to be denied, dominating Mississippi Valley State
   1-12  University 75-62 to claim the conference crown and a well-deserved
   1-13  spot in the NCAA basketball tournament field of 64; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Facing the defending national champion Arkansas
   1-15  Razorbacks in the first round of the NCAA tournament Midwest
   1-16  Regional, the Tigers demonstrated exceptional character and
   1-17  determination, fighting back from a 17-point first half deficit to
   1-18  take the Razorbacks to the wire before falling 79-78; although its
   1-19  bid for a monumental upset fell short, Texas Southern earned the
   1-20  respect and admiration of all those who witnessed the team's
   1-21  performance and closed out the season with a record of 22 wins
   1-22  against only seven defeats; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Head coach Bob Moreland, who has helmed the Tigers
   1-24  basketball squad for two decades, provided outstanding leadership
    2-1  throughout the course of the season, inspiring his players to
    2-2  perform at the highest level both individually and as a team; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, These exemplary young men, with their coaches and
    2-4  staff, have been a tremendous source of pride to the students and
    2-5  faculty at Texas Southern University and their supporters in the
    2-6  community, and their exceptional achievements are indeed worthy of
    2-7  special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-9  Legislature hereby congratulate the Texas Southern University
   2-10  Tigers basketball team on its outstanding accomplishments during
   2-11  the 1994-1995 season, including capturing the SWAC championship and
   2-12  earning an appearance in the NCAA tournament, and extend best
   2-13  wishes for continued success in the future; and, be it further
   2-14        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
   2-15  for the team members and coaching staff and that a copy be prepared
   2-16  for prominent display at Texas Southern University as an expression
   2-17  of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
