R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Recently, Houston resident Christopher P. Saenz was
1-2 selected by the People to People Student Ambassador Program to
1-3 represent his state and nation as a delegate to the British Isles;
1-4 and
1-5 WHEREAS, Founded in 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower,
1-6 the People to People Student Ambassador Program was created at the
1-7 height of the Cold War in an effort to promote peace and
1-8 understanding among citizens around the world; designed with the
1-9 help of such notable Americans as author William Faulkner,
1-10 conductor Eugene Ormandy, businessman Eddie Rickenbacker, and CBS
1-11 president Frank Stanton, this exceptional program has successfully
1-12 promoted social, cultural, economic, and political exchange among
1-13 young Americans and their counterparts in other nations for more
1-14 than three decades; and
1-15 WHEREAS, Currently a seventh-grader at Hodges Bend Middle
1-16 School in Houston, Mr. Saenz won acceptance to this highly
1-17 competitive program through his strong academic credentials and by
1-18 demonstrating maturity, leadership potential, and exemplary
1-19 communication skills throughout the program's lengthy interview
1-20 process; and
1-21 WHEREAS, This summer Mr. Saenz will participate in a 22-day
1-22 trip to England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland, during which he will
1-23 live with host families and attend meetings with students and
1-24 government leaders from Ireland and the United Kingdom; his
2-1 itinerary will also include a series of educational seminars and
2-2 classes that will entitle him to high school and college credit
2-3 upon his return to the United States; and
2-4 WHEREAS, Before embarking on this exciting and important
2-5 trip, Mr. Saenz will devote himself to learning about the
2-6 geography, economy, government, and rich history of these nations
2-7 as well as to discovering the customs and heritage of the many
2-8 cultures and countries that exist within the British Isles; when he
2-9 returns to the United States, he will share his experiences with
2-10 schools, civic clubs, and other organizations throughout the
2-11 Houston community; and
2-12 WHEREAS, An extraordinary young Texan who epitomizes the
2-13 ideals of the People to People program, Mr. Saenz will represent
2-14 the citizens of the Lone Star State with honor and distinction as
2-15 he carries out his duties abroad, and it is indeed appropriate at
2-16 this time that his efforts be given special recognition and
2-17 support; now, therefore, be it
2-18 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-19 Legislature hereby congratulate Christopher Saenz on his selection
2-20 for the People to People Student Ambassador Program and extend to
2-21 him warmest best wishes for an enjoyable and educational
2-22 experience; and, be it further
2-23 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-24 prepared for Mr. Saenz as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-25 House of Representatives.
