No. 464 74R8613 SRD-F R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On March 28, 1995, the Texas House of 1-2 Representatives will join with the residents of the Texas Panhandle 1-3 in paying tribute to 26 of the most extraordinary counties of the 1-4 state and in recognizing their rich cultural heritage, solid 1-5 economy, and many contributions to agriculture; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The region contributes much of our state's wealth of 1-7 agriculture, oil, and natural gas; while wheat is the major crop of 1-8 the northern counties, cotton is the crop of choice in the southern 1-9 counties, feedlot cattle, meat packing, leather tanning, and fabric 1-10 milling are major industries, and the oil and gas reserves stretch 1-11 120 miles from Moore County to Wheeler County, accentuating the 1-12 importance of natural resources to the area; and 1-13 WHEREAS, With its abundance of recreational and cultural 1-14 activities, the Panhandle of Texas offers a great deal of 1-15 entertainment and enrichment for locals and tourists to enjoy, 1-16 featuring attractions like Palo Duro Canyon State Park, which 1-17 highlights the internationally acclaimed musical drama "TEXAS" 1-18 performed under the stars in a natural amphitheater; the area is 1-19 also known for the events at West Texas A&M University, Kritser 1-20 Aviation and Space Museum, and the Panhandle-Plains Historical 1-21 Museum, which is one of the largest in Texas; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Home to more than 400,000 residents, the Panhandle 1-23 of Texas has reached record highs in employment rates and housing 1-24 market prices; one of the strongest regions in the state in which 2-1 to raise a family in a steadfast community, the Panhandle is 2-2 committed to preserving its unique way of life for all Texans to 2-3 come and enjoy; and 2-4 WHEREAS, In light of the many aspects of agriculture, 2-5 economy, and culture that have made the Panhandle of Texas an 2-6 exemplary place to work, play, or raise a family, it is entirely 2-7 fitting that the Panhandle be given special legislative 2-8 recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-10 Legislature hereby designate March 28, 1995, as Panhandle Day at 2-11 the State Capitol and commend the citizens of this remarkable 2-12 region for their many fine contributions; and, be it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-14 prepared for the Panhandle of Texas as an expression of high esteem 2-15 by the Texas House of Representatives.
