                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, On March 25, 1995, the proud citizens of Neches will
    1-2  celebrate their colorful past at the third annual Neches Heritage
    1-3  Day as part of local Dogwood Trail festivities; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Located in East Texas, Neches was founded in 1872
    1-5  when Murdoch McDonald sold 300 acres of land to the International
    1-6  and Great Northern Railroad Company, now Union Pacific, for $1; the
    1-7  theme of this year's heritage day, "Nechesville Revisited," pays
    1-8  tribute to the town's history, referring to its original name; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Festival goers may tour the town's vibrant past with
   1-10  a visit to such historic structures as the McDonald Store and
   1-11  Museum and the Neches Methodist Church; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, This year's event begins with an exciting parade
   1-13  followed by a lively slate of musical entertainment; visitors and
   1-14  residents alike also will have an excellent opportunity to relax
   1-15  and sample a tempting assortment of local foods, products, and arts
   1-16  and crafts, as well as to take advantage of a free cholesterol
   1-17  screening offered by Memorial Hospital of Palestine; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, This outstanding event offers its many participants
   1-19  an opportunity to celebrate local traditions and culture and is
   1-20  indeed deserving of special praise and recognition at this time;
   1-21  now, therefore, be it
   1-22        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   1-23  Legislature hereby recognize March 25, 1995, as Neches Heritage Day
   1-24  and commend the organizers of the Neches Heritage Day festival for
    2-1  their hard work in planning and staging this popular event; and, be
    2-2  it further
    2-3        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    2-4  prepared for the organizers of Neches Heritage Day as an expression
    2-5  of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
