R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, This year marks the eighth annual conference of
1-2 Hispanic Women in Leadership, and the occasion provides an
1-3 opportune time for its members to observe the progress they have
1-4 made and to discuss the challenges that lie ahead as they renew
1-5 their shared commitment toward advocating Hispanic women's issues
1-6 and improving the quality of life for this vital segment of the
1-7 population; and
1-8 WHEREAS, Since its founding in 1988, this dynamic
1-9 organization has grown from 20 pioneering women to 400
1-10 professionals representing both sexes who give generously of their
1-11 time and talents to achieve the worthy goals of the organization,
1-12 which include providing Hispanic women with a means by which to
1-13 network, encouraging their progress by providing them with
1-14 successful career-oriented role models, improving opportunities for
1-15 career advancement through leadership training and skill
1-16 development, and promoting an increased appreciation for the richly
1-17 diverse Hispanic culture; and
1-18 WHEREAS, The organization has sponsored a number of
1-19 successful fund-raising campaigns and has dedicated its proceeds
1-20 toward aiding battered and abused women and children as well as to
1-21 promoting education at the middle and senior high school and
1-22 college levels; Hispanic Women in Leadership also has demonstrated
1-23 its strong commitment to education through its support of Hispanic
1-24 Heritage Scholarships, which have offered many deserving young
2-1 students an opportunity to achieve their goal of a college
2-2 education; and
2-3 WHEREAS, For nearly a decade, Hispanic Women in Leadership
2-4 has greatly enhanced the lives of countless Texans and the members
2-5 of this chamber take great pleasure in recognizing this exceptional
2-6 organization at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-8 Legislature hereby honor Hispanic Women in Leadership for the
2-9 valuable contributions the organization has made to the development
2-10 and advancement of the Hispanic women of this state and extend to
2-11 its membership sincere best wishes for an informative, eventful
2-12 conference; and, be it further
2-13 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-14 prepared for Hispanic Women in Leadership as an expression of high
2-15 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
