                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Burta Rhoads Raborn is a highly respected Houston
    1-2  attorney and certified public accountant who has long served the
    1-3  people of the State of Texas; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Burta Rhoads Raborn was born in London, England, but
    1-5  had the great fortune to be raised and educated in Houston, Texas,
    1-6  and continues to practice her profession there; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Burta Rhoads Raborn received her bachelor's degree
    1-8  in accounting and economics from Rice University and her law degree
    1-9  from the University of Houston Law Center; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Burta Rhoads Raborn has been board-certified in
   1-11  family law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization for more than
   1-12  two decades; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Burta Rhoads Raborn is a recognized expert in family
   1-14  law, having been a charter member, secretary, and often-elected
   1-15  member of the board of directors of Gulf Coast Family Law
   1-16  Specialists, having served as president of the Family Law Forum,
   1-17  and having been elected to several official positions in the Family
   1-18  Law Section of the Houston Bar Association; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Burta Rhoads Raborn has published or presented more
   1-20  than two dozen papers on family law at various prestigious
   1-21  conferences, lectures, and continuing education courses; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Burta Rhoads Raborn has been a leading advocate for
   1-23  issues of concern to women in the courts, in the law, and in
    2-1  society, having served as founding president of the Association of
    2-2  Women Lawyers, as a charter member of the Houston Financial Council
    2-3  for Women, and as a longtime active member of the Women in the Law
    2-4  Section of the State Bar of Texas; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, Ms. Rhoads was in the first edition of Who's Who in
    2-6  Houston; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, Burta Rhoads Raborn is dynamic, optimistic, and
    2-8  intelligent and was once named one of Ultra magazine's "Wonder
    2-9  Women"; and
   2-10        WHEREAS, Burta Rhoads Raborn has received many awards and
   2-11  honors for her devoted work in the field of law; and
   2-12        WHEREAS, Burta Rhoads Raborn is beloved by thousands of
   2-13  friends, colleagues, and clients; now, therefore, be it
   2-14        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-15  Legislature hereby honor Burta Rhoads Raborn on the occasion of her
   2-16  60th birthday; and, be it further
   2-17        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-18  prepared for Burta Rhoads Raborn as an expression of best wishes by
   2-19  the Texas House of Representatives.
