H.R. No. 494 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Bluebonnet Girls State is a training program in 1-2 Americanism and citizenship, sponsored annually by the American 1-3 Legion Auxiliary, Department of Texas, to provide high school girls 1-4 from throughout the state a chance to experience firsthand the 1-5 functioning of representative government; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Participants in the program, chosen locally on the 1-7 basis of leadership, citizenship, scholarship, and character, 1-8 gather each year at the State Capitol, where they convene to 1-9 conduct a simulated legislative session; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Such sessions, a longtime Texas tradition 1-11 inaugurated in 1941, convey skills of organization, advocacy, 1-12 compromise, and persuasion that generate from among our state's 1-13 youth the public and civic leaders of the future; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The American Legion Auxiliary has requested the use 1-15 of the house chamber to conduct its 1995 and 1996 Girls State House 1-16 of Representatives sessions; and 1-17 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to 1-18 endorse the goals and ideals of Bluebonnet Girls State and express 1-19 its appreciation to the American Legion Auxiliary for its 1-20 sponsorship of this commendable program; now, therefore, be it 1-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 1-22 Legislature hereby grant permission to the Bluebonnet Girls State 1-23 program, in accordance with house rules and the policies of the 1-24 Committee on House Administration, to use the house chamber from 2-1 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., June 19, 1995, provided that the Texas 2-2 House of Representatives is not in session; and, be it further 2-3 RESOLVED, That the house also grant permission for the 2-4 organization's use of the chamber in 1996, again provided that the 2-5 house is not in session and contingent on approval of a date and 2-6 time by the Committee on House Administration.
