                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, While few athletic teams are able to realize the
    1-2  dream of attaining a state championship in their given sport, fewer
    1-3  still can marshal the dedication and drive to duplicate such a
    1-4  monumental feat; among that elite group is the Sudan High School
    1-5  Hornettes girls' basketball team, who in 1995 earned its second
    1-6  consecutive title as University Interscholastic League (UIL) Class
    1-7  A basketball champions; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Facing Alvord High School in the Class A finals at
    1-9  the Frank C. Erwin Center in Austin, Sudan dominated its taller
   1-10  opponent at both ends of the floor, cruising to a 66-42 victory to
   1-11  claim the coveted crown for a second consecutive time; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, The Hornettes completed the 1994-1995 campaign with
   1-13  a perfect record of 39 wins and no defeats, continuing their
   1-14  phenomenal win streak that spans 58 games over the past two
   1-15  seasons; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, The season's remarkable achievements were the result
   1-17  of a total team effort and selfless contributions throughout the
   1-18  year from members Tia Lee, Breanne Baker, Danielle Martin, Amy
   1-19  Brashear, Lashell Weaver, Gloria DeLaRosa, Shaun Weaver, Lauren
   1-20  Whitley, Kassie Kinney, Heather Bourland, Celena Mote, and Muffin
   1-21  Davis; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Although every player made significant contributions
   1-23  to the team's overall success, senior Danielle Martin earned
   1-24  special distinction as the Class A tournament's most valuable
    2-1  player, an accolade she also had received the previous year; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Head coach Mike Martin tirelessly schooled his
    2-3  players in hardwood fundamentals and instilled in them an
    2-4  unquenchable desire to duplicate their previous championship
    2-5  effort, and he was ably supported in his efforts by assistant coach
    2-6  Doug Jones; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, This exemplary group of young women and their
    2-8  coaches and staff have been a tremendous source of pride for the
    2-9  students and faculty at Sudan High School and their many supporters
   2-10  in the community, and their exceptional achievements have
   2-11  rightfully earned them special legislative recognition; now,
   2-12  therefore, be it
   2-13        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-14  Legislature hereby congratulate the Sudan High School Hornettes
   2-15  basketball team on its UIL Class A championship and undefeated
   2-16  season and extend to the players and coaches best wishes for
   2-17  continued success in the future; and, be it further
   2-18        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
   2-19  for the team and coaching staff and that a copy be prepared for
   2-20  prominent display at Sudan High School as an expression of high
   2-21  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
