R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Sudan High School Hornets boys' basketball team
1-2 has ascended to the pinnacle of success by winning the 1995
1-3 University Interscholastic League (UIL) Class A state championship;
1-4 and
1-5 WHEREAS, Although their previous appearance in the state
1-6 tournament in 1955 had failed to produce a title, the Hornets took
1-7 the floor at the Frank C. Erwin, Jr., Special Events Center in
1-8 Austin determined to take the top prize, and through a spirited
1-9 effort by the entire team they overcame Calvert High School 74-71
1-10 to claim the coveted crown; with the championship victory, Sudan
1-11 finished the season with an impressive record of 32 wins against
1-12 only two defeats; and
1-13 WHEREAS, The season's many accomplishments were the result of
1-14 selfless dedication to the team concept by members Mackie
1-15 Washington, Everest Williams, Jerald Weaver, Lee Ray, Corey
1-16 McAdams, Roger Huey, Jerimi Bourland, Chad Chester, Jorge Mota,
1-17 Deshon Jenkins, Justin Bellar, Jarrod Fisher, and Travis Lovell;
1-18 and
1-19 WHEREAS, Inspired leadership and tireless dedication were the
1-20 hallmark of head coach Doug Boxell, who, in his first year
1-21 as Sudan coach, guided the Hornets to the ultimate prize in
1-22 schoolboy basketball, and he was ably supported in his efforts by
1-23 assistant coach Royce McAdams; and
1-24 WHEREAS, This exemplary group of young men with their coaches
2-1 and staff have been a source of tremendous pride to the students
2-2 and faculty at Sudan High School and their supporters in the
2-3 community, and their outstanding achievements are indeed worthy of
2-4 special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-6 Legislature hereby congratulate the Sudan High School Hornets boys'
2-7 basketball team on winning the 1995 UIL Class A state championship
2-8 and extend best wishes for continued success in the future; and, be
2-9 it further
2-10 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
2-11 for the team members and coaching staff and that a copy be prepared
2-12 for prominent display at Sudan High School as an expression of high
2-13 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
