                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas Family Council Association works
    1-2  tirelessly to support and promote the establishment of independent
    1-3  family councils within nursing homes, thus ensuring that residents
    1-4  receive the best possible care; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Family members and volunteers have always played a
    1-6  vital role in providing long-term care in Texas nursing facilities,
    1-7  and most families grow to have tremendous respect and admiration
    1-8  for the caregivers who work daily with nursing facility residents;
    1-9  and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Recognizing the importance of a positive
   1-11  relationship between families and nursing facility employees, Jim
   1-12  Holley of Garland established the Texas Family Council Association
   1-13  to promote the creation of family councils throughout the state;
   1-14  these councils foster improved communication and cooperation
   1-15  between family members and professional caregivers, guaranteeing
   1-16  that facilities will respect the individuality and dignity of each
   1-17  nursing facility resident; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, In addition to promoting family involvement, family
   1-19  councils also offer a creative approach to problem solving and
   1-20  provide a strong support system for both residents and employees;
   1-21  and
   1-22        WHEREAS, With additional help from the Texas Health Care
   1-23  Association, family councils have spread to nursing facilities
   1-24  throughout the state, allowing the Texas Family Council Association
    2-1  to dramatically increase participation by family members of nursing
    2-2  facility residents; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, The successful efforts of the Texas Family Council
    2-4  Association have greatly enhanced the atmosphere and level of care
    2-5  at our state's nursing facilities, and their work on behalf of
    2-6  nursing facility residents is truly deserving of legislative praise
    2-7  and recognition; now, therefore, be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-9  Legislature hereby commend the Texas Family Council Association for
   2-10  its outstanding efforts to ensure the quality of care in our
   2-11  state's nursing facilities and extend to its members warmest best
   2-12  wishes for continued success in the years to come; and, be it
   2-13  further
   2-14        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-15  prepared for the Texas Family Council Association as an expression
   2-16  of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
