                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
    1-2  the student-athletes of Texas, whose active participation in both
    1-3  athletics and academics embraces the ancient ideal of striving to
    1-4  achieve a strong mind and body; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Successfully confronting the rigorous demands of
    1-6  both intellectual and physical competition makes student-athletes
    1-7  exemplary role models, enabling them to provide a laudable example
    1-8  to which their fellow students can aspire; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, The many notable achievements of student-athletes
   1-10  indicate that education and athletics are not competing goals but
   1-11  rather are two vital aspects of the scholastic experience that,
   1-12  when combined, produce multitalented young men and women with a
   1-13  profound understanding of competition, self-confidence, unity, and
   1-14  teamwork; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, The State of Texas is justly renowned as the home of
   1-16  many of the finest student-athletes in the nation and their efforts
   1-17  represent a significant aspect of our state's proud heritage; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, The exceptional character and determination of these
   1-19  young men and women are a tremendous source of pride and
   1-20  inspiration to their families, communities, and state, and their
   1-21  outstanding accomplishments in this regard are indeed worthy of
   1-22  special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
   1-23        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   1-24  Legislature hereby designate April 6, 1995, as Student-Athlete Day
    2-1  in Texas and encourage all Texans to observe the day with
    2-2  appropriate ceremonies and activities.
