                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, County governments across Texas provide outstanding
    1-2  service to our state's citizens by implementing the laws passed by
    1-3  state leaders and by serving as a gateway for accessibility to the
    1-4  vital services that result from the passage of those laws; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, County officials are situated on the front lines of
    1-6  government, for they occupy a level of government that is closer to
    1-7  the people and are directly responsible to area citizens for
    1-8  performing a multitude of fundamental tasks that enable our society
    1-9  to run more smoothly, safely, and efficiently; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, County governments routinely provide law enforcement
   1-11  services, operate courts, build and maintain roads, collect taxes,
   1-12  conduct elections, and safeguard vital public records while also
   1-13  providing many other services that support our communities,
   1-14  businesses, and schools; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Responsive to the unique needs of the communities
   1-16  they serve, whether urban, rural, or a combination of both, county
   1-17  governments play a leading role in economic development,
   1-18  environmental regulation, agricultural support, flood control, pest
   1-19  eradication, and a host of other valuable functions that clearly
   1-20  benefit our state's citizens in numerous, tangible ways; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, The professional and highly skilled staff who are
   1-22  employed by county governments in Texas strive to deliver the best
   1-23  possible service to their citizens; in light of the ongoing
   1-24  contributions this dynamic workforce makes to the Lone Star State
    2-1  each day, it is fitting that we join with our fellow Texans in
    2-2  saluting their exemplary efforts; now, therefore, be it
    2-3        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-4  Legislature hereby declare April 4, 1995, as County Government Day
    2-5  in Texas and commend the many dedicated individuals who are
    2-6  employed by the 254 county governments across Texas for their
    2-7  important public service.
