                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The recent passing of Elodia "Lala" Cirilo Elizondo
    1-2  on January 28, 1995, at the age of 77, has brought a great loss to
    1-3  the many friends and relatives of this distinguished Texan; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Born in Yorktown on June 17, 1917, to Guadalupe
    1-5  Guerra Cirilo and Constancio Cirilo, this exemplary woman moved to
    1-6  Edinburg during her childhood and later to Weslaco, where she
    1-7  dedicated herself to her family and to the service of her church
    1-8  and community; she enjoyed a happy marriage with her husband of
    1-9  many years, Antonio, and took great pride in the accomplishments of
   1-10  her nine children, Ruben, Juanita, Roberto, Viola, Rosa, Lupita,
   1-11  Raul, Antonio, and Bertha; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Mrs. Elizondo was the manager of the Weslaco
   1-13  Catholic Federal Credit Union for 30 years and was a much-loved
   1-14  member of her town's Catholic community; a member of the
   1-15  congregation at St. Pius X Church, where she was a eucharistic
   1-16  minister, this devoted woman was instrumental in the founding of
   1-17  the St. Joan of Arc School in Weslaco and served as president of
   1-18  both the mothers club and altar society at the school; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Mrs. Elizondo was a woman of rare compassion and
   1-20  charity who worked to improve the lives of those around her; in
   1-21  addition to serving as a board member at Milagros Health Services
   1-22  and as a mission program associate for the Sisters of Charity of
   1-23  Cincinnati, this exceptional individual worked with the Knapp
   1-24  Memorial Methodist Hospital Auxiliary and represented the poorest
    2-1  residents of Hidalgo County as a board member with the Associated
    2-2  City-County Economic Development Corporation; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, Friends throughout the Weslaco community will
    2-4  remember her also for the contributions she made toward education,
    2-5  learning, and school activities; a school board member from 1966 to
    2-6  1972, Mrs. Elizondo worked in behalf of the local band boosters
    2-7  club, the Boy Scouts of America, the Friends of the Library, and
    2-8  the Library Board; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to know this remarkable
   2-10  Texan will not soon forget the kindness and commitment she brought
   2-11  to every facet of her life; though her presence is gone from us
   2-12  now, her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all those
   2-13  whose lives she touched during her years on this earth; now,
   2-14  therefore, be it
   2-15        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-16  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Elodia Cirilo
   2-17  Elizondo and extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family:
   2-18  to her husband, Antonio Elizondo; to her children:  the Reverend
   2-19  Ruben Elizondo of Guatemala, Juanita Elizondo Garza of Weslaco,
   2-20  Roberto Elizondo of Paramount, California, Viola Elizondo of
   2-21  Weslaco, Rosa Elizondo Evola of San Antonio, Lupita Elizondo Torres
   2-22  of Garland, Raul Elizondo of Arlington, Antonio Elizondo, Jr., of
   2-23  Weslaco, and Bertha M. Elizondo Finney of Salt Lake City; and to
   2-24  her many other relatives and friends; and, be it further
   2-25        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-26  prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
   2-27  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
    3-1  Elodia Cirilo Elizondo.
