R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The wedding anniversary of two outstanding Texans
1-2 who have shared more than 70 happy and rewarding years of marriage
1-3 is truly a memorable occasion worthy of special recognition; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Luis and Emilia Phillips Pena recently had the
1-5 privilege of commemorating such a momentous event in their lives
1-6 when they celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on February 4,
1-7 1995, with a reception at Northway Healthcare Center in Houston,
1-8 where they were joined by many close friends and relatives; and
1-9 WHEREAS, United in matrimony in the community of Edna in
1-10 1924, the couple has enjoyed a deeply fulfilling union that has
1-11 grown in love and mutual respect with each passing year and that
1-12 has been blessed by the birth of eight children; and
1-13 WHEREAS, Over the years, their close-knit family has
1-14 continued to grow, and the Penas now delight in the company of 24
1-15 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren, and they are eagerly
1-16 awaiting the birth of their first great-great-grandchild; and
1-17 WHEREAS, Mr. Pena is a native of Goliad, while Mrs. Pena was
1-18 reared in Belton, and they each hail from families that have
1-19 enjoyed great longevity; Mrs. Pena and her sister, Senona Pena,
1-20 have shared a special bond throughout their adult lives as a result
1-21 of marrying brothers; and
1-22 WHEREAS, Mr. Pena also remains close to his beloved siblings,
1-23 Christina Garza, Charlie Pena, and Lupe Martinez; and
1-24 WHEREAS, Built on a foundation of mutual love, trust, and
2-1 support, the marriage of Luis and Emilia Pena has long served as a
2-2 source of joy and inspiration to their family and many friends and
2-3 indeed merits special recognition; now, therefore, be it
2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-5 Legislature hereby congratulate Luis and Emilia Phillips Pena on
2-6 the joyous occasion of their 71st wedding anniversary and extend to
2-7 them warmest best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it
2-8 further
2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-10 prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Pena as an expression of high regard by
2-11 the Texas House of Representatives.
