                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, On April 6, 1995, the family and many friends of
    1-2  Emmett A. Autrey will help him mark a momentous event in his life
    1-3  when they celebrate his 100th birthday; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Mr. Autrey was born in Gilmer on April 6, 1895, and,
    1-5  as a youth, traveled with his large family by covered wagon to
    1-6  sawmill and gristmill towns throughout Texas, Louisiana, and
    1-7  Arkansas; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, He has many special memories of that period and
    1-9  enjoys relating anecdotes of his remarkable life to his children
   1-10  and grandchildren; he fondly recalls camping on the banks of the
   1-11  Colorado River in Austin on December 31, 1899, and watching the
   1-12  fireworks display at the State Capitol as it heralded the coming of
   1-13  the new century; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Like many men of his generation, Mr. Autrey is a
   1-15  dutiful and patriotic individual who came to the aid of his country
   1-16  during World War I; as a member of the United States Navy, he
   1-17  served in convoy duty on the U.S.S.  Minneapolis; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, A man of diverse talents and interests, he
   1-19  distinguished himself in a number of jobs before serving as justice
   1-20  of the peace in the Indiana towns of Macy and Delong from 1939 to
   1-21  1948; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Mr. Autrey relocated to Brownsville in 1948 and is
   1-23  well known throughout that community and in nearby San Benito for
   1-24  his successful real estate career that spanned almost 40 years; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, He moved to Central Texas later in life and for the
    2-2  past eight years he has been a valued member of the Georgetown
    2-3  community; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, The proud father of four children, E. Allen Autrey,
    2-5  Donald R. Autrey, Reva M.  Lane, and Alice M. Murrie, Mr. Autrey
    2-6  has watched his family grow to include 15 grandchildren and 16
    2-7  great-grandchildren, and the members of this chamber are proud to
    2-8  join those family members in extending birthday wishes to this
    2-9  distinguished Texan; now, therefore, be it
   2-10        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-11  Legislature hereby congratulate Emmett A. Autrey on the august
   2-12  occasion of his 100th birthday and extend to him warmest best
   2-13  wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
   2-14        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-15  prepared for Mr. Autrey as an expression of high regard by the
   2-16  Texas House of Representatives.
