                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, James Brown has achieved outstanding success in
    1-2  athletics at both West Brook High School and The University of
    1-3  Texas at Austin; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, A native of Beaumont, this extraordinarily gifted
    1-5  young man rewrote the record book at West Brook High School as
    1-6  quarterback of the football team, dazzling opposing defenses with
    1-7  his running and passing skills and winning district offensive
    1-8  player of the year honors on two occasions; he also demonstrated
    1-9  exceptional ability in basketball, and turned down many scholarship
   1-10  offers in that sport to play football at The University of Texas at
   1-11  Austin; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, He took his first snap as a starting quarterback for
   1-13  Texas against the Oklahoma Sooners, replacing the injured Shea
   1-14  Morenz, and quickly established himself as a force to be reckoned
   1-15  with, leading the Longhorns to a stirring 17-10 victory over their
   1-16  Red River rivals; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, A starter in three other games during the 1994
   1-18  season, he ignited his squad to victories over the University of
   1-19  Houston, Baylor University, and Sun Bowl opponent the University of
   1-20  North Carolina with pinpoint passing and timely running; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Although only a freshman, he already has established
   1-22  a new University of Texas football record for passing efficiency,
   1-23  and also led the nation in that category during the 1994 campaign;
   1-24  and
    2-1        WHEREAS, His remarkable efforts as Longhorn signal caller
    2-2  twice earned Mr. Brown well-deserved designation as Southwest
    2-3  Conference Offensive Player of the Week by the Associated Press and
    2-4  he also was chosen co-Southwest Conference Newcomer of the Year by
    2-5  the Austin American-Statesman; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Throughout his athletic career, James Brown has
    2-7  combined his exceptional physical abilities with an unquenchable
    2-8  will to lead his team to victory, and his many notable
    2-9  accomplishments on the playing field are indeed worthy of special
   2-10  legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-12  Legislature hereby congratulate James Brown on his outstanding
   2-13  athletic achievements and extend sincere best wishes to him for
   2-14  continued success in the future; and, be it further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-16  prepared for Mr. Brown as an expression of high regard by the Texas
   2-17  House of Representatives.
