R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, While few teams are talented and fortunate enough to
1-2 attain a state title in their given sport, fewer still can marshal
1-3 the dedication needed to consistently claim the coveted crown;
1-4 among this elite group are the Port Arthur Lincoln High School
1-5 boys' basketball team who, by capturing the University
1-6 Interscholastic League (UIL) Class 4A state championship, have
1-7 added yet another chapter to their school's legacy of hardwood
1-8 excellence; and
1-9 WHEREAS, With a thrilling 57-56 victory over Austin Anderson
1-10 High School in the championship game of the 1995 Class 4A state
1-11 tournament, the Bumblebees earned their second state title during
1-12 the decade of the 90s and the seventh in their school's history,
1-13 having completed the 1994-1995 campaign with an impressive overall
1-14 record of 35 wins against only three defeats; and
1-15 WHEREAS, The season's outstanding accomplishments were a
1-16 result of total dedication to the team concept from members Bernis
1-17 Aikles, Spencer Comeaux, Dwayne Conner, Melvin Curtis, Shockman
1-18 Davis, Dominic Hardie, Keith Harris, Tony Hope, Stephen Jackson,
1-19 Chris James, Nicholas Judgeware, Sidney Keal, Dyran Lockwood,
1-20 Immanual McElroy, Thomas Mouton, Jason Payne, Alexander Reeder,
1-21 Thad Sanders, Elliot Stewart, and Isaac Washington; and
1-22 WHEREAS, Head coach Andre Boutte provided sterling leadership
1-23 to his young charges and he was ably supported in his efforts by
1-24 assistant coaches Gabriel Duffy, Harry Gunner, and Dwight Scypion;
2-1 other invaluable off-the-court assistance was provided by trainer
2-2 Shawn Klinger and managers Richard Briscoe, Jamie DeRouen, Simeon
2-3 Queen, Shad Comeaux, and Hajji Jannah; and
2-4 WHEREAS, This exemplary group of young student-athletes,
2-5 together with their coaches and staff, have successfully upheld the
2-6 lofty tradition of excellence established by previous Port Arthur
2-7 Lincoln High School basketball teams; their noteworthy
2-8 accomplishments are a source of great pride to the school's
2-9 students and faculty and are truly worthy of special legislative
2-10 recognition; now, therefore, be it
2-11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-12 Legislature hereby congratulate head coach Andre Boutte and the
2-13 Port Arthur Lincoln High School boys' basketball team on capturing
2-14 their seventh UIL Class 4A state championship and extend to them
2-15 sincere best wishes for continued success in the future; and, be it
2-16 further
2-17 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
2-18 for the team members and coaching staff and for prominent display
2-19 at Port Arthur Lincoln High School as an expression of high regard
2-20 by the Texas House of Representatives.
