                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, April 3, 1995, marks a significant milestone in the
    1-2  life of Leon Grevenberg for on that day he will celebrate the
    1-3  momentous occasion of his 100th birthday; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Born April 3, 1895, in New Iberia, Louisiana, to
    1-5  Leon and Laura Byjou Grevenberg, he learned the value of hard work
    1-6  from an early age as the second of 10 children in the close-knit
    1-7  Grevenberg family; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, In 1916 Mr. Grevenberg took as his bride the former
    1-9  Marie Johnson and their union was blessed with 13 children; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, He began his career as a railroad foreman in his
   1-11  hometown but later relocated his family to Diboll, Texas, where he
   1-12  accepted a position with a local box factory; in 1945 the
   1-13  Grevenbergs moved to Orange and lived there for two years before
   1-14  finally settling in La Porte, which has remained Mr. Grevenberg's
   1-15  home throughout the ensuing years; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, At the age of 100, this spry gentleman is still
   1-17  active in a variety of pursuits; he takes great pleasure from
   1-18  raising his prize game chickens and ducks and also enjoys tending
   1-19  his spring and fall vegetable gardens; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Mr. Grevenberg has consistently devoted his time and
   1-21  energies to the betterment of others through such worthy activities
   1-22  as helping out at the annual church bazaar and serving as an usher
   1-23  at Sunday mass; and
   1-24        WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Mr. Grevenberg's abiding faith
    2-1  has sustained him and has been central to all his many endeavors; a
    2-2  founding member of the Knights of Saint Peter Claver at St.
    2-3  Theresa's Catholic Church in Orange, he currently worships at St.
    2-4  Mary's Catholic Church in La Porte; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, A treasured member of the community, Leon Grevenberg
    2-6  continues to serve as an inspiration to all who are privileged to
    2-7  know him and, on the occasion of his birthday, it is indeed fitting
    2-8  that we recognize this remarkable gentleman for the joy and
    2-9  happiness he has brought to so many people throughout his lifetime;
   2-10  now, therefore, be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-12  Legislature hereby congratulate Leon Grevenberg on the momentous
   2-13  occasion of his 100th birthday and extend to him warmest best
   2-14  wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-16  prepared for Mr. Grevenberg as an expression of highest regard by
   2-17  the Texas House of Representatives.
