By Duncan H.R. No. 550 74R9514 PAN-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 a delegation of students from O. L. Slaton Junior High School in 1-3 Lubbock who are visiting the State Capitol on this day; and 1-4 WHEREAS, These accomplished young people were selected to 1-5 participate in their special trip to Austin as the winners of a 1-6 contest in which they were required to answer four essay questions 1-7 relating to state government, to obtain two teacher 1-8 recommendations, and to be interviewed by a panel of distinguished 1-9 judges; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Under the guidance of teachers Deb Cates and Kathi 1-11 Elmore, students Bobby Champion, Teri Medina, Alicia Robbins, and 1-12 Corey Simpson will spend a day in the company of their state 1-13 representative, Robert Duncan, whom they will accompany to 1-14 committee meetings, bill hearings, and any other negotiations he 1-15 may be attending on that day; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Students also will be taken on tours of the 1-17 Governor's Mansion, the State Capitol, and the LBJ Library, will 1-18 serve as pages on the house floor, and will visit two other sites 1-19 of interest that are unique to the city of Austin, the historic 1-20 Texas State Cemetery and the largest urban bat colony in North 1-21 America, which they will view as the colony emerges from underneath 1-22 the Congress Avenue bridge at dusk; and 1-23 WHEREAS, These outstanding students typify the finest 1-24 qualities of our state's young people and their interest in 2-1 learning more about state government is indeed commendable and 2-2 deserving of special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-4 Legislature hereby welcome Bobby Champion, Teri Medina, Alicia 2-5 Robbins, and Corey Simpson to the State Capitol and extend to them 2-6 warmest best wishes for an educational and memorable stay in 2-7 Austin; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-9 prepared for these fine students as an expression of high regard by 2-10 the Texas House of Representatives.
