                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The recent passing of Richard Taylor on April 1,
    1-2  1995, at the age of 66, has brought a great loss to the many
    1-3  friends and relatives of this esteemed Bedford business leader; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, A native of Fort Worth, this outstanding individual
    1-5  was graduated from Northside High School in 1946 and served his
    1-6  country with distinction in his youth as a member of the U.S. Navy;
    1-7  and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor began his distinguished career in 1947 at
    1-9  First National Bank of Fort Worth and quickly established himself
   1-10  as a knowledgeable and motivated worker; while employed at that
   1-11  institution, he also developed a consummate understanding of the
   1-12  banking business; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Determined to create a local bank that could best
   1-14  meet the community's growing needs, he founded Hurst State Bank in
   1-15  1956 and was the guiding force behind that highly successful
   1-16  enterprise until its purchase by Texas Commerce Bancshares in 1974;
   1-17  and
   1-18        WHEREAS, He continued to be an active force in the industry,
   1-19  establishing Mid-Cities National Bank in Hurst several years later
   1-20  and also serving as the bank's chief executive officer, and under
   1-21  his able guidance, Mid-Cities' assets experienced phenomenal
   1-22  growth; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Throughout his long and productive career,
   1-24  Mr. Taylor was steadfast in his belief that banks should be
    2-1  sensitive to and serve the needs of the communities that make their
    2-2  existence possible, and it was this philosophy that made the
    2-3  institutions under his direction bastions of hope for all the
    2-4  residents of his community; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, Richard Taylor was a man of rare vision and
    2-6  dedication who will long be remembered by all who were privileged
    2-7  to know him; although his presence is gone from us now, his unique
    2-8  spirit will surely live on in the hearts of the many fortunate
    2-9  individuals whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it
   2-10        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-11  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Richard Taylor and
   2-12  extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
   2-13  Lois Taylor of Bedford; to his children, Les Farrington of Decatur,
   2-14  Mitchell Farrington of Fort Worth, Steve Farrington of Bedford,
   2-15  Belinda Black of Brownwood, Angela Beavers of Watauga, and Patti
   2-16  Taylor of Dallas; to his brother, Joe Paul Taylor of Fort Worth;
   2-17  and to his five grandchildren; and, be it further
   2-18        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
   2-19  for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of
   2-20  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Richard
   2-21  Taylor.
