                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The passing of Alfred Abramson on March 23, 1995, at
    1-2  the age of 79, has brought a great loss to the many friends and
    1-3  relatives of this distinguished gentleman; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, The son of Louis and Minnie Pupkin Abramson, he was
    1-5  born June 13, 1915, in Cleveland, Ohio, and earned his higher
    1-6  education in the Lone Star State, having graduated summa cum laude
    1-7  from The University of Texas at Austin's School of Pharmacy; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Mr. Abramson was known to many residents of San
    1-9  Antonio as "Mr. A" throughout his successful career as a
   1-10  pharmacist; he purchased Griffins Pharmacy in 1940 and, with the
   1-11  aid of his family, made the drug store a fixture in the community
   1-12  for 26 years; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, A consummate professional, he treated each customer
   1-14  with the utmost care and concern, and he enjoyed the distinction of
   1-15  having helped a White House physician when Brigadier General
   1-16  Wallace Graham, who served as President Harry S. Truman's personal
   1-17  physician, came by the store during a visit to San Antonio in 1947;
   1-18  and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Though Mr. Abramson closed Griffins Pharmacy in
   1-20  1966, he continued to be  active in his chosen field as a
   1-21  pharmacist at Globe Pharmacy, where he helped to fill as many as
   1-22  1,000 prescriptions a day for nearly three decades; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Thoroughly dedicated to his profession, he also made
   1-24  many vital contributions to his field as a valued member of the
    2-1  Bexar County Pharmaceutical Association; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Mr. Abramson will be fondly remembered as a warm and
    2-3  caring individual who enjoyed the many close friendships he had
    2-4  formed through the years as an esteemed member of San Antonio Lodge
    2-5  No. 1079, the Scottish Rite, and Alzafar Shrine Temple; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, he was supported by a deep and
    2-7  abiding spiritual faith, which he eloquently expressed as a devout
    2-8  member of the New Jewish Congregation, where he was active in many
    2-9  of the temple's activities; and
   2-10        WHEREAS, Mr. Abramson was a man of great energy and
   2-11  enthusiasm who devoted much of his life to serving the needs of his
   2-12  community; though his special presence will be missed by all who
   2-13  knew him, his unique spirit will surely live on in the hearts and
   2-14  minds of the many people whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be
   2-15  it
   2-16        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-17  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Alfred Abramson and
   2-18  extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
   2-19  beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Muriel Abramson; to his four
   2-20  children, Marsha Abramson Surad, Lindie Hunt, Judy Stubbs, and
   2-21  Ronald Abramson; and to the many other friends and relatives of
   2-22  this exceptional gentleman; and, be it further
   2-23        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-24  prepared for the members of his family, and that when the Texas
   2-25  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
   2-26  Alfred Abramson.
