No. 580 74R10053 WMS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Ozona High School Lady Lions basketball team has 1-2 achieved the pinnacle of success by winning the 1995 University 1-3 Interscholastic League (UIL) Class 2A state championship; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Making its first appearance in the state tournament 1-5 in 33 years, Ozona took the floor against Poth High School in a 1-6 state Class 2A semifinal matchup and put on a textbook 1-7 demonstration of hardwood excellence, dominating their opponent at 1-8 both ends of the floor en route to a 65-42 victory; and 1-9 WHEREAS, With the state title on the line, this superb group 1-10 of young athletes refused to be denied, coming from behind to 1-11 defeat Cooper High School 61-47 and finishing their championship 1-12 season with a phenomenal record of 34 wins against only two 1-13 defeats; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The Lady Lions featured superior ability, 1-15 outstanding determination, and tremendous pride on the part of 1-16 every team member, including Bobbie Bryson, Gloria Pena-Alfaro, 1-17 Amber McWilliams, Autumn McWilliams, Heather Hall, Leigh Chandler, 1-18 Tara Wilkins, Amber Tarr, Stormi Sessom, Julie Perez, Shelly 1-19 Sullivan, Connie Fielder, Megan Tambunga, Amy Laughlin, and Jessica 1-20 Avila; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Exceptional dedication and leadership were the 1-22 hallmark of head coach Dickie Faught, who molded the individual 1-23 talents of his players into a successful team concept, and he was 1-24 ably supported in all his efforts by assistant coaches Rodney 2-1 Johnson and Deborah Ramon; and 2-2 WHEREAS, This exemplary group of young women, together with 2-3 their coaches and staff, are a tremendous source of pride to the 2-4 students and faculty of Ozona High School and their many supporters 2-5 in the community, and their exceptional accomplishments indeed 2-6 merit special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-8 Legislature hereby congratulate the Ozona High School Lady Lions 2-9 basketball team on winning the UIL Class 2A state championship and 2-10 extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success in the 2-11 future; and, be it further 2-12 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-13 for the team members and coaching staff and for prominent display 2-14 at Ozona High School as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-15 House of Representatives.
