H.R. No. 595 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The wedding anniversary of two outstanding Texans 1-2 who have shared 50 happy and rewarding years of marriage is truly a 1-3 memorable occasion worthy of special recognition; and 1-4 WHEREAS, David Benjamin and Nellie Hutchins McCall will have 1-5 the privilege of commemorating such a momentous event in their 1-6 lives when they celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on May 1-7 28, 1995; and 1-8 WHEREAS, United in matrimony in 1945, the couple has enjoyed 1-9 an enduring relationship that has grown with love and respect with 1-10 each passing year and that has been blessed with the birth of two 1-11 sons; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Mr. McCall has been well regarded throughout the 1-13 Plano community for his distinguished career in public service, 1-14 which began with his tenure as principal of schools with the Plano 1-15 Independent School District from 1946 to 1955; respected throughout 1-16 the city for his professionalism, hard work, and dedication, he 1-17 went on to serve his fellow citizens as mayor of Plano from 1956 to 1-18 1960; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Mr. McCall has also enjoyed a successful career as a 1-20 businessman and purchased the Joe Bradshaw Insurance Agency in 1-21 1955; a proven leader in financial issues, he went on to establish 1-22 Plano Savings and Loan Association in 1963 and served with 1-23 distinction as its chief executive officer for 26 years; and 1-24 WHEREAS, He later joined with fellow citizens to purchase the 2-1 controlling interest in First National Bank and served as chairman 2-2 of the board for 13 years; in addition, he has worked to ensure 2-3 that the area will have an adequate water supply well into the 2-4 coming century as a member of the board of the North Texas Water 2-5 District for the past 23 years; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Mrs. McCall is highly regarded throughout the 2-7 community in her own right; like her husband, she has demonstrated 2-8 an abiding commitment to education issues and was a positive role 2-9 model to countless students as a teacher in the Plano and 2-10 Richardson independent school districts; and 2-11 WHEREAS, A woman of many talents and interests, she was a 2-12 stewardess with American Airlines during the early years of her 2-13 marriage and went on to conduct a number of informative and 2-14 well-received seminars for the airline during the 1970s; and 2-15 WHEREAS, She also has expressed her artistic talents as an 2-16 interior designer and helped decorate many business offices 2-17 throughout the area; and 2-18 WHEREAS, The McCalls further served their community by 2-19 instilling in their offspring the traditional family values of hard 2-20 work, achievement, and community involvement and were amply 2-21 rewarded for their efforts with the successes of each of their 2-22 children; and 2-23 WHEREAS, David B. McCall III, a former chair of the Dallas 2-24 Area Rapid Transit Board, enjoys his practice as an attorney and 2-25 currently sits on the board of trustees of Baylor University and 2-26 Baylor Hospital, while his lovely wife, Jenny Toombs McCall, is 2-27 active in civic affairs and volunteers with the Komen Foundation 3-1 and Collin Intervention to Youth; the McCalls' other son, 3-2 Representative Brian McCall, has distinguished himself as a member 3-3 of this chamber; and 3-4 WHEREAS, Now surrounded by a loving family that has grown to 3-5 include two cherished grandchildren, Cameron McCall and Meredith 3-6 McCall, the pair are deservedly enjoying the many benefits of a 3-7 full and rewarding life together and continue to pursue their 3-8 favorite pastimes; and 3-9 WHEREAS, Built on a foundation of mutual love, trust, and 3-10 support, their life together has been a source of joy and 3-11 inspiration to their family and many friends throughout Plano and 3-12 Collin County, and the members of this chamber are proud to join 3-13 the McCall family in celebrating this joyous occasion; now, 3-14 therefore, be it 3-15 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 3-16 Legislature hereby congratulate David Benjamin and Nellie Hutchins 3-17 McCall on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend 3-18 to them warmest best wishes for their continued happiness; and, be 3-19 it further 3-20 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-21 prepared for Mr. and Mrs. McCall as an expression of high regard by 3-22 the Texas House of Representatives.
