H.R. No. 596 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Ken Molberg has recently retired as chairman of the 1-2 Dallas County Democratic Party after providing outstanding 1-3 leadership for the members and volunteers of his party since March 1-4 1990; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Born March 20, 1952, in Houston, this distinguished 1-6 Texan spent his childhood in the Texas Hill Country, attending St. 1-7 Mary's High School in Fredericksburg before embarking on a 1-8 successful career as a legal scholar and attorney; a high honors 1-9 graduate of the University of North Texas, Mr. Molberg served as 1-10 editor-in-chief of the university's newspaper, the North Texas 1-11 Daily, and wrote an article on the death of Lyndon Baines Johnson 1-12 that won a prestigious national journalism award; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Mr. Molberg was graduated from the Southern 1-14 Methodist University School of Law in 1976, and while attending 1-15 this fine institution he served as managing editor of the school's 1-16 major law publication, the Southwestern Law Journal, and was a 1-17 member of Phi Delta Phi, an honorary legal fraternity; and 1-18 WHEREAS, This exceptional individual entered private practice 1-19 in 1976, working with James C. Barber and the Honorable Martin 1-20 Frost, a member of the United States Congress, and for the past 13 1-21 years he has been a partner in the esteemed Dallas law firm of 1-22 Wilson, Williams, Molberg & Mitchell; an authoritative and 1-23 influential voice in the field of legal scholarship, Mr. Molberg 1-24 has written and lectured on countless issues related to labor 2-1 relations law and is also a contributing author of the state bar's 2-2 Texas Practice Guide; and 2-3 WHEREAS, This remarkable gentleman has dedicated himself 2-4 toward the betterment of his profession as a member of such 2-5 organizations as the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers and the 2-6 National Employment Lawyers Association; a member of the American 2-7 Bar Association, Texas Bar Association, Bar Association of the 2-8 Fifth Circuit, and Dallas Bar Association, Mr. Molberg was named a 2-9 fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation in 1991; and 2-10 WHEREAS, In addition to these exceptional achievements, this 2-11 fine Texan has also made many important contributions to local and 2-12 state politics; at the tender age of eight he participated in the 2-13 Kennedy-Johnson bumper sticker brigade and since then has become a 2-14 veteran of countless Democratic campaigns; and 2-15 WHEREAS, A delegate to every state Democratic convention 2-16 since 1972 and a past president of the University of North Texas 2-17 Young Democrats, this hardworking individual serves as chairman of 2-18 the Texas Democratic Party's state nominations committee and sits 2-19 on the budget and finance committee and the rules committee; he is 2-20 also a past director of the Dallas Democratic Forum and is today a 2-21 member of the organization's advisory board; and 2-22 WHEREAS, A driving force within Dallas County politics, 2-23 Mr. Molberg was elected Democratic precinct chairman in East 2-24 Dallas, a position he held until his election as chairman of the 2-25 Dallas County Democratic Party in March 1990; during his five-year 2-26 tenure in this position, he has helped to build a successful 2-27 fund-raising and campaigning base for Texas Democrats at the local, 3-1 state, and national levels, and his intelligence and leadership 3-2 have proven a great asset to his organization; and 3-3 WHEREAS, Although he has stepped down from this position, 3-4 Mr. Molberg will remain active within local politics and will 3-5 continue to give generously of his time and energy to local civic 3-6 and charitable organizations; a devout member of his community of 3-7 faith at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, where he has served on 3-8 the Parents Association board of directors, this fine Texan is a 3-9 former member of the board of directors of the local chapter of the 3-10 Association of Retarded Citizens and is currently a member of the 3-11 St. Thomas Aquinas Holy Name Society, the Dallas Museum of Art, the 3-12 Historic Preservation League, and the Swiss Avenue Historic 3-13 District Association; and 3-14 WHEREAS, This outstanding civic leader is a dedicated and 3-15 loving family man who enjoys a rewarding marriage with his wife, 3-16 Linda, and who takes great pride in his four children, Rachel, 3-17 Travis, Cameron, and Collin; and 3-18 WHEREAS, In light of the innumerable contributions that 3-19 Mr. Molberg has made to his city, county, and state, it is indeed 3-20 appropriate at this time that he be given special legislative 3-21 recognition and support; now, therefore, be it 3-22 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 3-23 Legislature hereby honor Ken Molberg on the occasion of his 3-24 retirement as chairman of the Dallas County Democratic Party and 3-25 extend to him warmest best wishes for continued success in his 3-26 future endeavors; and, be it further 3-27 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 4-1 prepared for Mr. Molberg as an expression of high regard from the 4-2 Texas House of Representatives.
