                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, On April 22, 1995, the members of the Texas House of
    1-2  Representatives will join with citizens around the state in
    1-3  celebrating the 25th anniversary of Earth Day, an event observed
    1-4  each year in schools and communities across the Lone Star State by
    1-5  citizens concerned about environmental issues; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1970, Earth Day has
    1-7  encouraged people around the world to take action to ensure that
    1-8  our planet's skies, oceans, and lands will remain clean, beautiful,
    1-9  and productive for generations to come; in 1990, more than 200
   1-10  million people worldwide took part in activities designed to
   1-11  preserve and protect the Earth's most precious natural resources;
   1-12  and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Traditionally, Earth Day has been observed not only
   1-14  on the designated day but throughout the surrounding week as well;
   1-15  this year,  the energy committee of the student council at Landrum
   1-16  Middle School in Spring Branch has proposed that a special week be
   1-17  designated in Texas and that events, programs, and celebrations be
   1-18  held around the state in order to promote environmental awareness
   1-19  and education; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, These outstanding activities will help citizens of
   1-21  all ages and  backgrounds to have a deeper appreciation of the
   1-22  beauty and value of a clean, safe, and protected environment, and
   1-23  it is indeed fitting that a special time be set aside for Texans to
   1-24  reflect on the unique and diverse natural heritage with which our
    2-1  state has been blessed; now, therefore, be it
    2-2        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-3  Legislature hereby recognize April 17-23, 1995, as Environmental
    2-4  Awareness Week in Texas; and, be it further
    2-5        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    2-6  prepared for prominent display at Landrum Middle School as a
    2-7  commemoration of this grand occasion and as an expression of
    2-8  highest regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
